Connected To Station - No Data?
Hi everyone,
I've just installed a new system here, and have connected up my Davis VP2 console to it. MX connects to the station, but it doesn't download the data from the logger. I've copied over all of the files from my previous system, so I presume this issue isn't coming from those.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
William

The com port setting will be different - assuming you don't have an ip logger.
Are your locale settings identical between systems?

Re: Connected To Station - No Data?
Hi Mark,
Thanks for your quick reply. I changed it from COM3 to 1, because it couldn't connect to the station, but now it can. It just won't read the data off the logger.
This is what MX is showing:
I've noticed that I have data showing, but from yesterday when I backed up the files ready for the new system. So, it seems like it's either a port problem (I've allowed 8002 and 8998 through Windows Firewall but it's made no difference), or some communication problem between the PC and console, which I can't understand seen as it's recognising the station but not the data?!

Ignore me! I totally misread your post, I thought you were moving to a Linux OS for some reason.

Re: Connected To Station - No Data?
Looks like it hasn’t finished downloading the archive data, it has two passes and only one is showing. If you look at the diags file you’ll see what it’s doing.

Re: Connected To Station - No Data?
Yeah, it managed eventually but then throws a wobbly as I get huge temperature spikes etc.

Re: Connected To Station - No Data?
Ok, so basically. I've the other PC system set up next to me, I've transferred the data, web and webfiles folder and Cumulus.ini files over using a USB drive. I then got a fresh copy of MX, removed the relevant files listed above, and then replaced them with the ones off the USB drive. But, it just fails to download and then has a wobble causing issues like temperature spikes etc.

Re: Connected To Station - No Data?
The simplest way to migrate MX is to copy the entire folder. Make sure your system settings (date and time formats etc) are exactly the same on the new system.

Re: Connected To Station - No Data?
Yup, done and checked. Basically, MX downloads the data and then I get this random log file glitch so it messes all the data records up. It's like as if in between me turning off the old system and running MX on the new one, something happened, but I don't know what...

Re: Connected To Station - No Data?
Looks like the only way I can get it to work, is use the data from the old PC, then change the time in today.ini to the latest minute...

Re: Connected To Station - No Data?
Perhaps a corrupt entry in the logger, if ignoring archive data (by editing today.ini) makes the problem go away.
Or perhaps your temp sensor is failing, temps in the sixties is what I’ve experienced on the numerous occasions where my temp sensor died. Or maybe that was minus sixties...

Re: Connected To Station - No Data?
Yeah, most likely. That value isn't being shown on the console, so I think it's a logger/logger to MX communication problem.
Anyway, I forgot to ask you both, I hope you're well. I read your post Steve about being away, sounds great fun! Glad that you've managed to sell the house easily, and you're enjoying "retirement".

Re: Connected To Station - No Data?
Great, well deserved! I just want to ask one question, if a record is set, and then the same value occurs again, is MX supposed to use the first occurrence date as its record or not? It's just that I saw MX update my lowest temperature record's date to the latest one, not the first. Surely, the first makes more sense? It seems to do it for some types of records, but not others? e.g. temperature but not wet period etc.

Re: Connected To Station - No Data?
If it’s exactly the same, it won’t change, but sometimes, due to conversions and rounding and the way that floating point numbers are stored, the record can apparently be broken even though when rounded it looks like the same. I accept that strictly speaking it may not actually be a new higher/lower reading.
