Running MX as a second Cumulus on same computer

Post by PaulMy »

I have recently been successfully running Cumulus 1 with VVP alongside with Weatherlink from a Davis USB logger. Cumulus 1 is set as TCP/IP with IP address 127.0.0.1 and TCP Port 5511.

I am also testing a third party WeatherlinkIP alternative logger (wireless) and would like to try this with CumulusMX. This wireless IP logger is IP 192.168.0.25 where I can view the console's data and logger settings. This is on a different console than Cumulus 1.

I have installed latest CumulusMX and can start it
CumulusMX3.png
I can access the dashboard with http://127.0.0.1:8998 or http://localhost:8998 however there is no data yet.

I have station settings as:
IP address as: 192.168.0.25 (which is the IP for the logger which I presume is what is needed)
TCP port as: 8002 (which is from CumulusMX startup Starting web socket server on port 8002)
Disconnection period: 0 (I may need to change this as the WiFiLogger is doing several uploads every 5 minutes).

In the TCP/IP settings, you need the TCP port that the logger is using, not the Cumulus interface port.

Thanks Steve,
With that port change and some other settings in the WiFiLogger I have CumulusMX running on my computer, in addition to Cumulus 1.

Once the WiFiLogger has completed its testing phase I will look at CumulusMX uploading to website and also get in to the database side.

I am still experimenting with this setup and appears that using the full WiFiLogger features and also running Cumulus full time is not stable. CumulusMX crashes at least a couple of times per day. Attached zip has the MXdiags after the last crash and then needing to Enter to restart CumulusMX. The second file is the current.

WiFiLogger will work correct as a wireless connection from console to router and do all the uploads and its features. By turning off the WiFiLogger uploads and features it should work as a wireless connection from console to router and then program like Cumulus should connect as an TCP/IP. But not both ways at the same time. There is a Pause feature that would stop the auto WiFiLogger features but allow Cumulus access during that pause but that will not give Cumulus ongoing access. This appears to be a reverse way to how Cumulus and a Davis WeatherlinkIP logger uploads to weatherlink.com. Not sure yet how that all would work.

One other item is the Rainfall counter and Rain rate. It seems to fluctuate from 0 to an amount. Maybe this is related to the crashes.

There was rain yesterday of 1.6 mm but nothing today.

There’s a communication problem between Cumulus and the logger, Cumulus frequently isn’t getting any response, and it looks like the connection eventually fails, hence the crash.
