Re: Not Posting on Twitter
As mentioned earlier in this thread, Cumulus can no longer obtain the tokens to allow it to post to Twitter, since Twitter changed their interface yet again.

Re: Not Posting on Twitter
Still trying to get a workaround for this.
Steve, is the text that CumulusMX would like to tweet (but fails because of the lack of auth keys) stored in a file somewhere? I am looking for but cannot find a copy of 'twitter.txt' that has been processed to contain the current data instead of the tags

Re: Not Posting on Twitter
It doesn't create a file, it just stores the processed text internally.

Why not report your data to Weathercloud, and then turn on the Twitter function there.ExperiMentor wrote:Still trying to get a workaround for this.

Because of the Authentication issue, unless you had your keys before twitter changed the way it authorised, you wont be able to use cumulus to report twitter updates. so use another method.
another method is if your using CumulusMX and run it on Linux is to use twidge. https://github.com/jgoerzen/twidge/wiki
you can get cumulus to process webtags to a file. then use twidge to post the contents of that file to Twitter via a cron job.

Re: Not Posting on Twitter
A pointer on how to do that would be useful. Once I have a text file, I will be able to tweet it, with a corresponding weathercam image (I use Twython).Toxic17 wrote:you can get cumulus to process webtags to a file

Re: Not Posting on Twitter
just process the file (a template) with webtags in it and Cumulus will output the file to whatever filename you want with the values from your weather station.ExperiMentor wrote:A pointer on how to do that would be useful. Re: Not Posting on Twitter
Simon,
I'm obviously not being clear, or am thicker than I think! I've not done anything like this before and it's not obvious what to do.
What do I need to do to tell Cumulus to 'process' my webtags twitter.txt file?
I guess it means adding the file into Settings / Extra Files, but that doesn't seem to do anything.
The settings I have are:
Set Local Filename to /home/pi/Cumulus/twitter.txt
Set Remote Filename to /home/pi/Cumulus/tweet.txt
Tick 'Process'
But what else should I tick?
Do I need to select something else elsewhere?

Re: Not Posting on Twitter
If you already have Cumulus configured to upload to a web site, you shouldn't need to do anything else. If you're not already uploading any files, you probably just need to tick 'auto update' so that it actually does some web file processing.

Re: Not Posting on Twitter
Yes, Steve, that was the problem.
I enabled autoupdate in Settings / Internet Settings / Web/FTP settings ,and am now happily tweeting both the weather text string and my webcam image at @LiesbergDorf
