The answer from what most peole are saying is, don't ask us Steve, do what you want to do.

v1 is awesome as is, it doesn't have any major issues, any development is to add even more functionality (is that even possible?) that will most likely be more specialised and therefore, be features used by less and less people the more specialised you get.

v2, to me, only develop it if you want to.

I too am in awe of the patience with which you have shown people like myself who have asked the most inane questions for the umpteenth time.

To you sir I say, do whatever you want, because I am (still) one astoundadley happy customer!

I am in the same boat as nearly everyone else. V1.8.9 works well and is stable, I am also amazed at the very fast responses to any questions raised. For a free program only asking for donations, sensational. :D  I encourage everyone who hasn't please donate. :!:
I would love to see V2 and that is where my vote is going. It is your hobby Steve and I have no idea how much work goes into it as I am useless on computers. I think the decision is yours so that you get the most satisfaction from it.
Good luck and thanks for all the help so far.
Adrian

OK, I have voted for 2. But sticking with my election parallel, there must be a few hundred Cumulus users and yet very few vote. Now I don't think it's apathy (as it is with politics), but because they have a product which does what they want and they are happy. So…. go for revolution rather than evolution citizen Smith. :)

Hi Steve,
I voted 'Don't care' but I am very happy with '1' and probably wouldn't upgrade to '2' as I run Cumulus 24/7 on an ancient laptop that just about runs a very basic WinXP with no updates beyond SP2. So I would say keep up the great work  and concentrate on doing what you enjoy most. :D

First of all I'd like to say thanks for producing C1. I pretty much run it all of the time that my computer is on and the main reason I got it is so I can upload to wunderground.com and see what the weather is doing at my house. My work takes me away from home for more than half of the month so its nice being able to "spy" on my house when I'm gone.

I just upgraded to the latest release of C1. I have never had any problems with C1, but have only been running the weather station since late Dec as it was a Christmas gift. C1 does more than I could ever need and I am very happy with it.

Since I'm never home I don't feel like I have the time to be able to run a program in beta much less alpa mode. I have only seen screen shots of C2 one time, but I remember really liking what I saw. From what I remember the graphics looked much more "user friendly" and colorful to the point where I could probably get the wife more interested at looking at it.

Like others have said do what ever makes you the most happy. For me C1 is working great and I would be totally happy with it going into maintenance mode. C2 looks amazing and I really can't wait for it to be at a point where it is stable/developed enough for me to be able to use it.

This is EXACTLY how I feel, Steve!

Me too - or three :D

Same for me Steve, does everything I need it to do, plus the only way I could poss use C2 would be to buy a new computer to run it off, as the one I am using is about 10yrs old. But im happy as larry with C1, you have made a cracking bit of software everything needs to be updated and re released in this technological age to keep up to date with the competitors. I voted for C1 only because im happy with that, but I would say go for C2 from a progression point of view.

Dave

I am personally thrilled with vs. 1 It probably does almost everything I would want from the current modest weather station I have.

But I would say, unless there is a bulging wish list, park it, and let's see what the new kid on the block can do.

You mention it being more memory hungry - how much by I wonder?

I am currently running Windows 7 64bit with 4mb of ram and a 300mb ramdisk. I also use it for intensive satellite data downloading from Eumetsat.

Huge thanks,

James

By around a factor of 10. Cumulus 1 uses less than 20 MB, Cumulus 2 was using over 100 MB at times, the last time I looked. Much of this is down to the third-party components, and the eventual usage may be considerably different (in either direction).

I don't know but I suspect adding features to C1 is going to get harder and the code more difficult to maintain - best to start with the new tools and a clean slate (now you know what you're really doing! )

Agreed here also.

You don't start a totally new direction and then drop back to the old ways, that would be like everyone going back to our Commodore 64's, though maybe not a bad thing.

Interesting that you should post in this thread at this moment, when I have just decided... no, I'll say no more for now.

Pretty good, those C64s... ;)

Hi Steve

I think as a developer you always have to go forward, so my vote would be to push on with Cumulus 2. I must admit now I have got Cumulus 1 up and running on my site all be it with gratefully received help from other forum users ( I am new the web site construction ) I think it is brilliant as it is.

Obviously Cumulus 2 will offer more but I personally don't know if I would change unless it had the ability to automatically update the the existing setup. I think that is something that might be worthwhile bearing in mind for the new version.

Thanks for all your effort on behalf of us plebs.
Regards
Doc

The fact that C2 was born, in the first place, means you know you can do it all differently and better. I say go with C2.

Some users are happy with WinXP, others jump to Vista then Win7.

I believe some will stay with C1, others will want the latest and greatest.

Chris
