Okay, I've changed the first value to 0.02 now. Do you now need to change the reports from > to => ?

They already work that way (as described in the help), it's just the labelling that is inconsistent because I was copying the way WL works (with mm, I hadn't realised it works differently for inches). I tried to keep the format the same as far as possible in case anyone was doing machine-processing of the files, and it turns out they are. It may or may not be important to keep that '>' as '>' rather than '>='.

I meant the labelling, sorry. I too am concerned about moving away from official values. Let's see what NOAA say.

The metric equivalent is 0.2mm. It's not just a case of rounding is it given the value stored in cumulus.ini is to about 8 decimal places?

I've come to the conclusion that NOAA have nothing to do with these reports, and that Davis originated them, and based them on the NOAA ones like the sample I linked to. And as the NOAA version uses >= I don't think there's a problem with Cumulus doing it that way. And I agree that now it's pointless to stick to the WL inconsistent labelling, so I'll change it to reflect what it actually does.

I don't think so, but I do think that there's a chance that the code for the NOAA reports might occasionally come up with a different result than the 'rain day threshold' code (where I have taken steps to ensure that rounding can't affect the outcome) so I'll change the NOAA report ode to do it the same way.

Okay Steve. I'll wait for a new version and then generate my reports again.

Rather irritatingly I now have 0.02" of recorded 'rain' today which is nothing more than melted dew in the gauge.

I have gauge with two and half days worth of snow, rain, and sleet frozen up inside it - it started to slowly melt today. What happened to all yours Ray?

Up here in balmy Cheadle Hulme it melted on Friday. Does your station get any sunshine to help with the melt? I never realised Wilmslow was so nippy! ;)

The rain gauge is fully exposed to the Sun - such as it is. But it's cold, the snow is still on the ground and the roads here. I've just been out for a quick walk and the local lake is still frozen over with a thin layer of snow on top.

Not much melt in the rain gauge today, it has hardly made any visible difference to the contents, the problem is that it has all solidified into one big lump of ice.

And I see the temp is already below zero again. Strange topography down there.
