Looking through the many records Cumulus has for temperature and rainfall I wonder if it might be possible to have some additional ones for pressure.

Over the last 48 hours the pressure in this part of England has dropped from 1018hPa down to 996 in a little under 21 hours and has now risen back up to 1019 in a little over 18 hours. The pressure change was briefly described as "Falling Very Rapidly" which is not something I see very often.

It seems a pity we cannot capture these large variations and store them in the Records.

Steve, I know you don't want to make substantial changes at present to Cumulus but this is just throwing the dicussion open to the group as to whether they might find it useful and whether you, as the programmer, could grab these large variations.

FWIW, I think that keeping records for greatest pressure change over a period would be a useful thing to do at some point.

I agree, some thought required about what periods though? 1hr, 6hr, 12hrs?

My historic pressure graph tells a bit of a story for the last couple of days (select pressure - 1 month), but the rate of change would be a interesting additional data set.

The easiest one to do would be 3 hours, because that's the period Cumulus uses already, and it's used in official circles, e.g. in UK coastal station reports.

Steve, thanks. Do you want me to raise an Enhancement Request?

Mark, Do you have any plans for shorter periods than a month on those graphs?

Those are created from the dayfile, in order to go for a shorter period then a higher resolution would be requred - ii.e. the monthly log files (or even the realtime logger like I use on my main entry 'now' page). Currently I do not log this data into the database so I cannot create the graphs - who knows I may do it one day, the adaptation of the existing scripts would be pretty trivial.

Pressure has dropped 27hPa since midnight and is still 'Falling Quickly'. Possibly a record for this station.

Here are my 3-hour pressure changes according to my WU records...

midnight-0300; -3hPa
0300-0600; -5.1hPa
0600-0900; -5.1hPa
0900-1200; -6.8hPa
1200-1500; -6.7hPa

That's a drop of 26.7hPa in 15 hours from 999.2 to 972.5.

Once the webtag is (hopefully) available I can use this thread as a reference.
