Quite correct beteljuice. It does make you wonder how much research those in the kite-flying club did before buying a VP2. Sites like WindGuru can provide this kind of info but a quick look at the site doesn't make it clear if they accept data from independent weather stations.

I see the station is now uploading wind, temperature and pressure data via Cumulus.

I thought the unit was cabled to the other sensors, and could be at the base of the pole. Is it simply that they aren't connected because the club didn't think they needed them ?.

Yes you are missing the whole point. Anemometer needs to stay at the top of the mast for correct reading hence ISS stays at the top of the mast too. the distance from the top of the mast to a safe place out of the public eye is too long to be cabled. The wireless device could be an option but not for the price.

ATM we are talking to some people who don't know what they've got through a third party who doesn't know what they've got either !

If they are unconcerned about the accuracy (or even the existance) of the other sensors, they can be located on the 'roof' or even indoors :?

At no extra cost ...........

you still didn't get it

Appreciate it, that's the purpose of a forum

Possibly, to have a full weaher station is on the roadmap if we get right wind reading first! you say that but I'm tired of seeing anemometers wrongly placed, I rather prefer to have at least one reading accurate in the whole area.

probably enough to understand it was the best reviewed weather station, hey if you got the money...

Wrong, windguru gives you forecast based con computed weather forecast models. There are already good resources on this. I'm looking to get realtime and historic data of wind speed and direction on my local spot and access the data remotely. Not asking much :-)
btw the anemometer has broken again giving 0.0 reading. These might be the 5th time I need to fix it, not very impressed for such a super weather station.

Isidro

What height is the anemometer at the top of the mast? There are strict rules regarding the placement of weather recording instruments to ensure uniformity. For anemometers they should be placed at 33 feet (10.06 meters).

Okay, I understand. But bear in mind the height of the aemometer if you wish to keep accurate records.

Davis are renowned for quality and reliability. If it stops reading wind direction and/or speed it's likely it hasn't been assembled correctly. It's important that the wind cups are attached correctly with a little 'play' when you push them upwards.

PS. Are you aware your website hasn't been updated since 30 May?

It is about that 8-10 m.

since I got it I have this problem and I cannot say how it has been setup the first time, although there a lot of users out there complaining about the same issue. I've disambled the cups and fit it again, since then it seems more stable. The last 0.0 reading I actually think is because there wasn't wind.

I've just realized the console already gives you barometric pressure and inside temperature. Is this data enough for cumulus to autoupdate or does it need external temperature too?

Thanks
Isidro

That's a big difference. Try to get it to 10 m if you can. :)

You can soon check if there's a problem by the wind direction when wind is blowing. Direction and speed are two different components (obviously). It's quite normal for no wind at times (usually overnight) but you should always get a direction indicated where there is wind.

Steve advised earlier Cumulus expects external temperature and pressure. Make sure you have the temp/humidity lead plugged into the right-most socket inside the ISS and that will guarantee Cumulus will upload data.

It would help if you could enter your latitude and longitude into Cumulus setup so we can see your location and compare your readings to nearby stations.

Isidro, could you possibly give us an idea of the location where the station has been placed, such as where the mast is located, building(s) nearby - is the station located inland, by a large open field, or close to the sea, by a large beach?

Thanks Steve!! really appreciate it. I've upgraded cumulus but I could not test it yet as the station is offline.

Also the anemometer has definetly stopped working so I'm looking to have it replaced:

http://www.davisnet.com/weather/product ... pnum=06410

Does any one know a Davis dealer in Europe that offers the spare at a good price? I've checked the official dealer in Sweden but I didn't get any reply yet. I've seen the following in UK:

http://www.red-onions.co.uk/product_inf ... s_id=10240

Would a different brand anemometer be compatible with the station and if so, would you recommend any specific?

The location is in Lomma beach: 55.68 : 13.05

Thanks
Isidro

Isidro,

Davis importers in Europe tend to have exclusivity so variations in price amongst retailers are small. I bought my VP2 from ProData here in England and the advice John Dann gave me prior to the order was excellent.

I would suggest you contact John at ProData. I suspect only a Davis anemometer will be compatible.

Thanks Ray, I will check with him.

I can confirm the feature to not check sensors works, I have the page automatically updating!! Many thanks again! I love Cumulus :-)

The anemometer decided to work today, let's see for how long

I realize Cumulus have 2 wind gauges, one which is realtime and updates after few seconds and other which looks like some kind of average wind measure? it updates but not as frequently and often both show different measures. If you know the differences between both please le tme know, I know the realtime shows as you see in the Console and Cumulus main page.
