Hi All,

I just downloaded the latest Cumulus release from 25th Jan (no previous versions installed) and hooked it up to my Oregon WRM200 which had about 3 month worth of data in the logger.
Cumulus started downloading the history, which took quite a while :D, but once it was done, I could only see todays data. All the maximums etc. were from the last 5 minutes.
I tried to download the datalogger again using some other program (weather display), but the datalogger seems to have been wiped!

I'm a bit worried to have lost 3 months worth of data...

I've checked the backup and the data folders, nothing in there with any data in it.
However, I've found this in /diags/cumulus.001 with the size of about 10k with (among others) the following entries: see below
it seems to have ignored all history?

Any idea what has gone on? and how I can get my history back?
can I 'load' the below file again somehow or at least convert the line of 'package data' into a CSV file? (can do that myself ,just need to know the algorithm)

any ideas would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Marc

Cumulus starts collecting data from the point where you first run it. See http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#I.E2.80.99ve_just_installed_Cumulus.2C_and_it_didn.E2.80.99t_download_all_the_old_data_from_my_weather_station

The WMR200 station is unusual in that it doesn't allow software to choose the point from which archive data is downloaded and gives no control over what is sent, it just sends it, and then deletes it. So I'm afraid your data is lost, other than what was recorded in the diags files.

If you want to attempt to create entries in the Cumulus data logs manually, the format of the WMR200 archive packets is here: http://www.bashewa.com/wmr200-protocol.php and the format of the Cumulus data logs in in the help and the wiki. You only need to create the 'monthly' files, and then Cumulus can build the rest from that.

Hi Steve,

thanks for the quick reply and those links!
very helpful, but it seems like there's a bit of a headache to be had down the road... but do-able.

Is there really no way to stop this from happening for future users?
Like at least providing a pop up saying 'All your history will be erased - unplug now!' if the program found a WRM200. Or simply stop sending 'DA' requests?
I didn't really expect the program to 'ignore' my history files... true, it's mentioned in the FAQ, but I've only just come across Cumulus, liked the screenshots and wanted to give it a try!

ok, will try to unpluck these hex log entries and post the program later in case someone else needs it!

Thanks,
Marc

I've only recently added basic support for the WMR200 and it's the first station I've come across that behaves in this strange way, so there is currently no code in Cumulus to handle it. It's possible that I will improve the support for the WMR200 station at some point.

Hi, I've got a WM200 with datalogger enabled, and would like to use Cumulus.

I've got a few months of data as well, so I'm not going to plug it in, until I work out how to capture the data.

Apart from Cumulus, has anyone got the next best software to use? I've tried Weather OS, which doesn't work. I've tried Weather Display, which just seems so clunky its unusable.

For those of you who have just found Cumulus but have accumulated data on the WMR200 beforehand, try a slightly different viewpoint.
I bought my WMR200 quite a few months before Steve integrated support for it in Cumulus. I looked at and tried several other different weather packages, and quite frankly none of them came close to the easy interface and total flexibility that Cumulus offered. So, I waited. There was little I could do with my weather station without Cumulus, I just looked at the current stats it was displaying from day to day.
When Steve got the WMR models integrated, I just said great, at last, something I can really use. I reset everything and started from fresh as actually I had no idea as to the integrity of the data that I had already collected in the logger.
I know it might seem a pain loosing up to 3 months of data, but just go with the mindset that Cumulus will offer a great solution longterm, you won't regret it.
Oh, and also pay Steve his dues, whatever you can afford, it truly is a labour of love for him and he does deserve some small recognition because you will find that if you have a query, he responds all times of the day and night!
Just enjoy it for what it is.

You could try the following:

Install Cumulus but don't run it. In the 'data' folder, create a file called 'today.ini' containing the following

[General]
Date=01/01/2012
Timestamp=01/01/2012 08:45:00

Edit the dates to some point before the data in your logger starts. It's important to make the format of the dates match something which Windows on your system will recognise and be able to decode.

Start Cumulus and fill in the station settings screen appropriately.

I've tried this with a fresh install, and it downloaded the week's worth of data that was in my WMR200 logger. There's no guarantee that it will work for you, of course, Cumulus comes with no guarantees and you use it at your own risk. Remember that you'll probably only get one chance. You could watch the data folder when Cumulus starts downloading the data to see if it's created the monthly log file and is adding data to it, and quit if it isn't, you'll should only lose a few entries.

Note that downloading three months of data will take a very long time, and there will be a gap following the logger data in the logs as no live data is processed while logger data is being downloaded. The station may also stop sending the archive data from time to time; restarting Cumulus should get it going again from where it left off.

At the end of the download, once it seems to be running OK on live data, you should stop Cumulus (it will take a long time to close down) and edit dayfile.txt to delete the first entry as it most likely won't be valid. You may have some other tidying up to do.

That's the best I can offer.

Thanks for the workaround Steve!
Bigmac, you're spot on. The only reason I wanted to try Cumulus is, because the rest is basically not very usable, to put it politely.

So thanks for your all your work Steve, really do appreciate it, even if that might not have come accross in my first post  - Sorry!

I'm still working on this conversion program (or rather: didn't have a chance to get started other than designing it in my head as I got sidetracked with other stuff) and wil post it should someone else fail to read this before plugging in..

Thanks,
Marc
