Running two types of stations
I have a second station that I want to setup on another part of my property. I have been running a Zephyr 1000TD without any problems for years, however I thought it would be neat to have two reporting stations, so I have a Oregon Scientific WMR100.
Is it possible to run both stations on one Cumulus download, or do I just need to set the other one up on another computer.
Thanks',
Wayne

Re: Running two types of stations
You can only run one station with one instance of Cumulus, but you could run two instances and run them both on the same PC in this case.

OK, thanks'. I just was not sure if I could download Cumulus twice on my computer and it not affect the version running.

OK.....I tried, but Cumulus will not let me download another copy on the same computer. I am sure there is a way around this, but I cannot get it figured out.

By "download" I assume you mean "install"? What error do you get when you try to install it the second time? I have three copies installed here.

It denied the request without overiding the one I had "Installed".

Re: Running two types of stations
I'm sorry, but you're going to have to give me more than "it denied the request". I have no idea what that means. I need an explicit error message, or a screenshot, or something specific. How far through the install do you get?

Re: Running two types of stations
Well, Steve, that was fairly well it. I stopped at that point because I did not want to override the version that I have installed. No big deal, I have a computer expert in my family that will be here this weekend, and I will fill him in and let him figure it out. He set up my website, so he can surly do this.

Re: Running two types of stations
Perhaps what you're missing is that when the installer asks you where to install Cumulus:
you simply specify a different location to the location where you already have Cumulus installed, and then your existing installation is untouched. I can't think why that wouldn't work for you when it works for me.

Re: Running two types of stations
I am running a Maplin N96FY (Fine Offset WH1081) station under Windows 8 with Cumulus, and am thinking of adding a second WH1081 as a back-up and for experimentation whilst keeping my main station running, hence coming across this old posting.
I understand from this posting how to install a second copy of Cumulus on my computer (for the second station), but am a little confused as to how to set up each weather station for each copy of Cumulus?
The Cumulus Help File says you do not need to set a COM port for Fine Offset stations (I am using one of the three USB ports on my computer and have the Cumulus configuration station COM port setting at 0), so how does the computer know which station's data goes to which copy of Cumulus? I can only connect the second station to one of the other two spare USB ports on my computer.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Running two types of stations
You can't run two Fine Offset stations on the same PC, for the reasons you've mentioned - Cumulus can't tell them apart. It's possible that there might be a way for Cumulus to differentiate between two USB devices with the same vendor ID and product ID, using the USB serial number, but this is not something I have investigated.

Re: Running two types of stations
Thanks Steve, now Plan B....
Would I be able to do it if I bought a different weather station, say a Davis, that does require Cumulus to specifiy a COM Port?
Regards
Chris

Re: Running two types of stations
Yes, any two (or more) stations where Cumulus can distinguish between them will work, either by COM port or by virtue of being from different manufacturers.

Re: Running two types of stations
Thanks Steve, now to decide what second station to buy!
f I am going to spend more money than a second WH1081, then I would like it to record sunshine, in addition to what I now record with the WH1081 - any suggestions, please?
Thanks and regards
Chris
