An update from yesterday. Firstly, the anemometer resumed normal service just before midnight but then around 10:30am it slowed down to a crawl again.

Fortunately I do have a spare as a friend who has a relative in the US bought the Davis spares kit which includes anemometer, rain gauge and shields for the sensors. So that will be going up tomorrow.

I spoke to ProData and they have asked me to return the anemometer which was only bought in December 2013 and has lasted less time than the original reeded model. Hmmm. :( That will be returned on Wednesday and we'll take things from there.

You may be interested to know there is a replacement cartridge containing new bearings now available for the 6410 new style curvy body available here. https://www.scaledinstruments.com/produ ... cartridge/
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

I'm here again..

Third anemometer failing with the dreaded flicking to North issue.

I feel like ditching weather stations altogether. Davis has been so unreliable. :bash:

Is it possible to get my Davis anemometer refurbished?
I cannot keep buying their stuff at full price, it's ridiculous!

Apart from the console, I have pretty much had to buy 3 Davis Pro2 station since 2016, totally unacceptable.

How long has it been operational? New magnetic version I assume. You should be able to replace the cartridge if it’s a newer model. Mine was installed in Sept 2020.

That's for the wind cups, Ray. This is the age old problem of wind direction.

@Mapantz, is it a problem of the cups not rotating? There’s no mechanical components in them. I’m guessing it’s the cartridge that may have dirt in it. That was the case with my last one.

Davis seem to have accepted the wind components are the least reliable. Hence the redesign and a cartridge to make it as good as new. Certainly cheaper than a whole new anemometer.

Looking at your website the wind direction is from the SW. Seems fine.

It flicks to 360° periodically, Ray. The wind vane doesn't actually move to that direction, and that indicates damage to the wire or potentiometer. It's the third time I have had this happen.

Call ProData and see what they suggest. They’ve always been very helpful to me and John Dann does visit here now and then. Proximity to salt air perhaps? Steve had to replace kit on a regular basis in the Orkneys.

I watched the wind direction gauge on this link for 4 minutes. https://warehamwx.co.uk/gauges.php

It switched to north once right at the end. Other than that the 3 second updates were okay for over 3 minutes.

That's exactly how it starts, Ray.

If you keep watching it. you'll notice how it's always exactly 360° ..
