Hi Steve!

First of all: Congratulations for the "success story" of Cumulus. It's a great tool, and there aren't that many freeware programs for the use with Vantage Pro2 Stations that run on Windows.

Unfortunately, I've got a problem with mine.

I'm running VP2 with a USB-decoder, that is recognized on my WinXP as a COM-Port (COM 3).

Everytime I run Cumulus, the real-time data fetching hangs a while (about 2-6 seconds, irregular). It's really lagging, as if the CPU was used at 100%. You can't even click on the Menu buttons in the upper left corner of Cumulus until the data is displayed.

Is it a specific WinXP problem? Should I change the Serial Baud Rate on my VP2?

Cheers,

Julien

Which version are you using? The 1.8.3 beta has some improvements in this area. If you're already using 1.8.3 I don't think there's anything else I can do. The code which reads the data runs in a separate thread in 1.8.3, but it has to synchronise with the main thread to update the display. I did have quite bad responsiveness myself with 1.8.2, but it's much improved for me in 1.8.3.

Hi Steve,

Have just discovered Cumulus and intend to give it an extensive trial, first impressions BRILLIANT.

I seem to be having the same problem as VirtualSky and would like to give 1.8.3 beta a whirl to see if it cures the problem.
Unfortunately there is no reference on the link you gave, has it been removed temporarily?

Thanks for the good work

Steve G

No, it's still there - what happens when you try to download it?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the quick response.

I still cannot find it, I have looked under News but no mention of a beta.
I am obviously looking in the wrong place, but cannot for the life of me find it on the Sandysoft site.
Could you provide a direct link please?

Thanks

Steve G

I think I see where your confusion is coming from - it's the "Announcements and News" section of the forum I was referring to.

Anyway, here's the download link: http://www.nybbles.co.uk/downloads/beta183/CumulusSetup.exe

Hi Steve,

Just reporting back with my "lag/hang " issue as reported originally by Virtualsky.

I have now installed 1.8.3 and problem cured. Great program. Thank you.

Steve
