Steve:

If you need a tester for Cumulus and the latest Davis DLL I will offer my setup as a test bed.
And if the latest Davis DLL fixes the problem I will make another donation.

Can Cumulus read the Davis USB logger as a USB device and not a Virtual Serial Port?

The 32701 error is beginning to be a real nuisance.

In theory, yes; the DLL does permit this. I guess you would have to put the logger into USB mode first. I'm not aware of anyone who has managed to get this working, though.

Hey just an update... I un-installed AVG and installed Windows Essentials and its fixed my issues.. I've had my server running 24/7 on my Christmas holidays and she hasn't skipped a beat. The only other thing that I have changed is to the latest version of Cumulus :D

now I'll eat my words if I get the error again...

Please note I run - OS version : Windows XP Service Pack 3 build 2600

and I was getting the error on this OS. :D

Today I connected a professional audio recorder to a Firewire (IEEE 1394) port on my PC. As advised for maximum safety, I had both units powered off at connection, then booted the PC, then the recorder. Coincidence or not, I got the message from Cumulus at post-boot launch that it did not see my Envoy (32701 error). Killing Cumulus, and launching Weatherlink, it professed there to be no weather station detected, including multiple trials of the search function, PC full power down included (after I'd finished my work with the audio recorder).

In despair (or at least figuring I'd need to call Davis for help), I searched the web, and on some thread here someone advised cycling power on the Envoy. I pulled out the AC adapter cable and the USB cable, and was about to remove the batteries when I thought I might as well try and see if things had healed. They had.

So, I can't say what is cause and effect here. But perhaps if you have a formerly well-behaved rig for which the Envoy or console has suddenly "disappeared" disconnecting USB and the wall wart and reconnecting them might help.

I'm afraid I still haven't had chance to try the latest Davis DLL (it's the only thing I can think of from a Cumulus point of view that could possibly have any bearing on this problem), three months after first suggesting it. Hopefully my life outside Cumulus will have fewer distractions soon and I'll be able to get back to working on Cumulus.

Hi, I got this error 32701 when I was helping to set up my friend Jon_H's Davis Vantage Pro Plus Wireless, turns out that he had two (or was it three, can't remember now) of RIM's Virtual Serial Ports listed in Device Manager, and there were none free left.

So I uninstalled them (don't know where they had come from in the first place (unless it was his Blackberry phone)) and then when we connected the Davis console to the PC with the USB to Serial converter it said driver install failed and then took me to a website to download the driver (Prolific) and then that one now appeared in Device Manager instead under Ports, along with a COM number, and then I clicked on Station / Configuration and selected "Serial" in Cumulus (NOT USB) and the correct Serial port "number" which matched the Virtual serial port number in device manager and OK'ed it and then restarted Cumulus, and hey Presto it connected in Cumulus, and within 12 seconds the weather data appeared within Cumulus, and also in the Davis Weatherlink software. Most pleasing.

Now we only have to reconnect his Anemometer (the guy who sold him it cut through the "Wind" cable!!) and so I went round to his house to solder it only to find that his brand new Zinc Carbon batteries had died in the console after only about 3 weeks! Not impressed, but the batteries were Daewoo brand from a "Pound" shop. Hope Alkaline ones last 1 year like the manual says. EDIT: Duracell Alkaline brand new cells lasted 4 months LOL. Expensive to run...

Cheers,

Alistair G.

To those of you having problems with USB-connected stations: It occurred to me that even though Cumulus drives Davis USB stations as if they were serial, there is some USB code in Cumulus (or, more correctly, in some third-party code which Cumulus uses) which gets initialised every time Cumulus starts up. This means that Cumulus gets notified when USB devices join and leave. It's just possible that this may be causing a problem somehow.

I've added a command-line parameter to the latest build to allow you to stop the USB code being initialised. See the 1.9.2 announcement thread for details. I think it's unlikely to have any effect, but it's worth a try.

So far the NoUSB is "working".
There seems to be one detrimental side effect that may or may not be related.
The wind direction compass rose now flashes or blinks at random times.. The other dials remain stable,

Unfortunately I had to rewrite the code for the compass when I switched to the latest compiler at build 1031 and a side effect is a slight flashing sometimes when it's redrawn. I suspect the effect will be greater on some systems than others; it's barely noticeable on mine.

Hello all,

I've recently started using Cumulus with my new Davis Vantage Vue station, and I was regularly getting this 32701 error. It was occurring every day or two, suddenly losing communication with the console. Setting Cumulus to restart if data stopped helped, but occasionally it wouldn't connect at all when it restarted, just displaying an error message. This is running on Windows 7 (x64) with the USB data logger set to work as serial.

I've tried various things in this thread, with no luck. The last thing I tried was to plug the USB cable directly into the back of my computer, rather than into an external USB hub. It has now been working with no problems for several days, so that seems to be the solution in my case.

I just wanted to mention this solution here in case anyone else in the future is trying to fix this problem.

Warren
