The logger isn't just a logger, it's also the PC interface. You can't connect a Davis station to a PC without one. There's an unofficial third-party alternative available from someone who I believe has posted here in the past. I saw a post somewhere recently that said he was selling them for £50 including postage.

Two less expensive alternatives are available.

As Phil indicated, there is the (least expensive) DSI-01 Serial Interface for Davis VP, VP2, Vue and Envoy (without any kind of memory) and the more expensive Davis USB Datalogger Clone (equivalent to the WeatherLink Serial and USB).

If you're not in a hurry, keep an eye on flea bay. I'm sure I've seen the odd one pop up now and again.

I use both Cumulus and WeatherLink (WL, as I prefer some of their charts.)

If you're thinking on buying new, most dealers do bundles where the logger/software is included at a reduced price.
