Pan-Tilt-Zoom camera

Post by K8POS »

Anyone using one of those PTZ cameras?
There are times when the weather is approaching on West side of me, and others on the East.
Would be nice to be able to move the camera around.

Hullo,

yes I use one. I currently use a Canon VB-C60, and am mostly quite happy with it. It was a bit of a faff to set up the custom webpages to access the the preset camera positions, but I managed it with a little head-scratching.

You can see the result here: http://www.ttnt.co.uk:8082/local/index.html

I used to use an Axis PTZ camera, but I did not like it. There was no way to restrict anonymous users to the preset camera positions only, which meant that anyone with a little knowledge could take full control over it. Not what I wanted at all. Eventually it broke which gave me the excuse to get the Canon one.

Have fun with your camera,

Keith.

Hello.
I use an Apexis pan tilt zoom cam, with script from foscam and update every 15 sec. The script is secure and none can see my ddns and my port. When i want to change the position i use my smart phone. Yoy can see the results here: http://cam.meteoacharnes.gr/cam4/ . The picture isn't so good, like my main hd cam but thos cam catch strikes and send email to me. You can see also my five cams updating every 15 sec also in my main page. Also sometimes, in bad weather condition, i stream my hd cam with Angelcam.

There is a outdoor foscam one
http://foscam.us/products/foscam-fi9828 ... amera.html
A friend of my tried this one.
Only issue it seems is it can't pan up.
I would love to find a outdoor one suited for capturing weather...

I bit the bullet and when out and bought one.
Have to remount it on a block to provide a few degrees up . Most, like mine will only go to horizontal and down 90 degrees.
it does not have a dome so I can not mount it up side down. (Some you can)
Image I am capturing catches too much of my neighbors house.
Using http://www.iptimelapse.com for the capture and time lapse. It does not offer any PTZ control as of yet.
Most of the software out there is geared towards security, and not sky watching.
But I am happy with the results so far. I do NOT have it set up to stream or be remotely controlled. (Maybe later)
Have a look http://melvinweather.com/skyeye.htm.
Problems in the Time lapse are from starting and stopping the video capture, and the poor pictures. And I am running it on a cheap laptop.
Will set things up better on my desktop later this week.

Bought this one

Nice camera, just not well supported by the major software vendors.

Yea,

I bout this one a while back to put out on our building site to monitor work out there on our house.
http://www.amazon.com/ANRAN-Resolution- ... ptz+camera

For $130 bucks I figured I'd play around with it. It's been out part of the winter and now summer and has worked amazingly well. These PTZ outdoor cameras have limits. Generally you need heaters, blowers etc to keep them from fogging and freezing. This little bugger has worked well.

I mounted it in the backyard and connected to Blue Iris software. Blue Iris is great BTW. Caught all kinds of interesting critters in the yard.
The zoom is an actual mechanical zoom.

As with most PTZ cameras...they don't point UP. So as a weather cam it may not work well.
