Steve

I appreciate you are not at this stage yet, however in your development plan for V2 will it continue to use Webtags or do you have other ideas?

I think webtags are amazingly flexible and simple to use and understand, but they offer more advanced users several choices too. I'm just curious if there is a plan yet.

curiosity killed the cat

thanks

Yes, it's something I've been pondering. I'll still do the webtags for backwards compatibility, but if anyone has any other suggestions as well, I can consider them. But I suspect that the combination of the webtags and the realtime.txt file probably cover just about everything. I guess the option of putting data into a database on the web server would be good.

excellent, it would be a shame to drop webtags.

XML could be an option but this can so easily be produced using the webtags. PHP Labels the same. I use XML which means i then only have one file to process and it works really well. We might need a greater list of files to process/ftp for those using the webtag method; that is what started me off on the XML route as I ran out of lines on the list of files to process. ;)

Having the option of sending them to a database could be a nice idea too, however you then have the added complication of what to do with the update if you can't reach the server (for whatever reason). Do you then store the data for later transmission or forget it?!

Yes, it's a bit limiting. I'm trying to devise a way to make it unlimited in Cumulus 2.

If it was basically just maintaining a copy on the server of the local database (even if in a different format, eg MySQL), it could just keep trying to keep them in sync, uploading whatever was necessary each time.

Steve, how about producing automatically (can be chosen by the user by placing a check mark in front of the option) all 3 types of files, not only a 'realtime.txt' file but also 2 additional webtag filess in the PHP and the XML formats?

With options such as those already included in Cumulus 2, then 2 lines of the files to be processed by Cumulus have been free up.

That is it, that is all you are going to write!!!

You are not going to convince me that adding such and such options might confuse (more ... or further) the Cumulus 2 users...

I can guarantee that at least one person will ask what those options are for and how they use them. But you will be able to explain, so it's not a problem :)
