C2 has MANY pluses...

The first time C2 loaded, I really liked the GUI! That, alone, is like 500% more pleasing to the eye...and nice page transformations on the data.

I'm, in no way, familiar with SQL and though the installation went smoothly, something else happened when I loaded and ran C2 a second time:

When running C2, the CPU loading jumped to 70-75% and stayed there...and nothing in C2 would work. Granted the 1.86 CPU and 1Gig memory isn't much (running XPV3), but this is my server machine and a) it can't handle the SQL, b) it can't handle C2, c) there was an error hanging up CPU or d) some combination of the above.

In any event, I can't test C2 as-is. I could try a reinstall but I'm pretty sure you already have several beta-testers looking at it already.

Just thought I'd pass along my experience with it.

Thanks for the feedback. I know that there are performance issues with the database editor, were you using that? If not, it's possible that it was something to do with SQL Server - the next build doesn't use that.

Anyway, I'll have a new build available soon, so maybe you could give that a try?

No not the database editor...think SQL was the problem (but then thats just a gut-feeling).

If the next version doesn't use that, I'd be happy to try it.

I know that trying to build on an already succesful idea, to improve it, can be a gut-wrenching experience. Just remember, once all the "murphy's law" episodes are solved the end-product is always worth it and something which you can be even more proud.

Regardless of the bugs that are found as you go along, you are admired for your efforts. In fact, everyone here who has the know-how and experience in helping to debug and make valid suggestions on this kind of code is eqally admired.

Just think of people, like me, as a vulture sitting atop the fence-post awaiting the final product.

akasonny.

You are not alone having problems with Microsoft SQL Server...

I have installed Cumulus2 on my development computer (a Pentium 4 with 2.0Gb of RAM and running at 3.0GHz with Windows 7 RC as the operating software) and, when I run Cumulus2, the CPU usage goes to 80% (plus) and remains high until I exit Cumulus2 and I terminate the SQL services... That is not even considering how much disk space MS SQL Server is using... :o

Fortunately, Steve will be using SQLite (instead of the humongous MS SQL Server) ... but that also mean that all users that have installed Cumulus2 will have to try uninstalling MS SQL Server while leaving behind lots of useless files... :(

Uninstalling SQL was alot like a trip to the dentist. I *think* I got it cleaned up but I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. I'm still finding remnants of related files sprinkled around the hard drive.

Soooo....back to C1, with which I'm very happy, until such time as we can give C2 another go.

akasonny.

I too have to install both Cumulus2 (which should be easy) and Microsoft SQL Server (which is more likely a big pain in the 'postérieur')...

The MS SQL Server 2008 Express Edition installation file is about 65Mb but then the space used by MS SQL Server on the hard drive is in excess of 360Mb ... I cannot comprehend how a packaged file of 65Mb can end up taking 360Mb - it must be one of those Microsoft miracle...
