Is frost rainfall?

Post by TideMan »

Down here in the antipodes we're having frosts just about every morning now and my rain gauge (Fine Offset) registers 0.3 mm as the frost on the gauge thaws.
Should this be classified as rainfall or not?
Argument for: well it's water vapour that has condensed, then frozen, then thawed so it is rainfall.
Argument against: rainfall is precipitation from clouds

What do you think?

I asked that question some time ago about frost and dew and was told that the official position is yes as it is water vapour.

It should be included. You're measuring precipitation, not just rainfall.
