Daily rainfall not being totalle into the month and year totals.

Post by avinet »

I'm using a new Fine Offset 3081 installed at the end of 2017 along with the 1099 build of Cumulus. I've had 2 rain events, on the 1st and 3rd January which have shown up correctly on the Today and Yesterday readings but which have not been carried through to the This Month and This Year values - they both still show zero. In the Station Settings the year is set to start in January and the year to 2018 and roll-over to 9.00 am. Any suggestions about why totalling isn't happening would be much appreciated.

Is your computer going to sleep over the midnight period?

In your case I would say is either your computer, or your USB port, going to sleep around 9am; or are you switching your computer on/off so close to 9am that it cannot do the rollover correctly?

Usually the computer is turned off overnight and turned back on at around 7.30 am - sometimes put into sleep mode but also back up at 7.30 am. Roll-over is set for 9 am

Not a good idea I'm afraid. The amount of electricity consumed with no display on will be very small. Cumulus is designed to run 24/7/365 with only occasional shutdowns for computer maintenance.

I would urge you to leave it running and turn off sleep mode. If a laptop then configure the display to switch off when the lid is closed.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

Closing Cumulus down overnight is OK (although as with any other software, the resulting data will not be as good) but as mentioned in the readme.txt and several other places, you can’t allow your computer to sleep while Cumulus is running.

Thanks for the replies, I'll remember not to use sleep mode from now on :) I ran Cumulus for a couple of years with my old weather station without a problem but thinking back I was almost certainly turning the PC off rather than using sleep mode. I just have to wait for a bit of rain now to see if it rolls over as it should - hopefully on the weekend judging from the forecast.
