April 2024 - meant to be my driest month of the year!

Post by RayProudfoot »

Over 15 years of recording weather April has been the driest month by a long way. But this year we're in day 9 and I've not had a dry day yet.

Low after low being transported across the UK like we're a magnet for them. 2.06" and counting which is 107% of that expected.

And this year's rainfall is already at 12.37". Just about half of our driest year - 2018. 24.89" accumulated on day 100 of 2024. :bash:

The only reason the average temperature is so high - currently 2.7C above the norm - is because of cloud cover every night. It's keeping overnight temps far too high. The highest temp of 17.6C is hardly sweat-inducing.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

I am already at 15.4" for the year which puts it on track for another record year. April 9 days in is already 60% of the record for April.

2024 already has two months in the top 10 list. We have almost continuous rain in March and April.

Watching the Met Office Deep Dives on YT this afternoon this wet weather seems to be down to Sudden Stratospheric Warming. Temps over the North Pole are now cooling and El Niño is also coming to an end. Signs are reasonable that high pressure will build next week.

David, I thought it was bad here but you take the top prize. :o
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.
