I am a new user, green horn, I received a Zephyer Instruments weather station for X-Mas and two software discs. Easy Weather and Weather -Display. Easy Weather is great for monitoring and transferring to Excell, I am having a terrible time with Weather-Display. It came with a free disk, which I installed. I have had numerous problems ie: pressure is not the same on the software as the station, cannot create a link to weather underground (installed and then downloaded the version off web site) but it still says this is not available in the basic version. Don't understand what is wrong. Is Cumulus easier to work with than Weather - Display? Should I un - install it and then install Cumulus? I need answers and help!!! Windjack

You don't need to uninstall WD if you just want to try Cumulus - just don't run them both at the same time. Most people find Cumulus easier to use than WD - Cumulus doesn't have anywhere near the same number of options and facilities, for a start...

Thanks for the reply. I am going to try Cumulus and see if I can get it to work and upload to weather underground. If all goes well I want to pay for the product. What is an accepted or acceptable amount to donate. Thanks very much. JLH

I used to upload to WU via WeatherLink but the interface was obtrusive insisting on remaining on top of other windows. In comparison Cumulus just gets on with the job quietly and unobtrusively. Highly recommended.

Only you can decide how much to donate. Whatever you think the software is worth to you.

I am running the Zephyr with Cumulus and would be happy, as would others here, to help you out. Cumulus does a fine job with the Zephyr (albeit Zephyr won't update faster than every 50 seconds). For future reference, the Zephyr is a "fine offset" type and all future references to "fine offset" apply to your unit.

Ok boys, I need some help!! I registered with weather underground last night and got that done and then got Cumulus set up, followed the directions in readme for Weather Underground. I thought that all was fine. WU says that it takes a day to start up loading the data. On WU it shows my station but no data....I have spent the last hour trying to figure out whats wrong. I have re-read the cumulus readme and checked the configuration, I don't know what else to look for. Can somebody help. The station ID in weather underground is KTXCARLS2 if that will be of help to you. Thanks Windjack

Make sure your station ID is in capital letters....and that you have the correct password. If these are correct, Cumulus should be sending the data to WU.

I checked the station ID and it is correct. I had the pass word in lower case but changed it to all capitals also. So we'll see if that makes a difference. Thanks, all help is appreciated. Windjack

Still doesn't look like it's updating. Regarding the password, it should be exactly as you set it up, not necessarily all upper or lower case.

If you turn on the debug log from the configuration menu, let it run for a while, then look in the debug.log file in the Cumulus installation folder. That will show you exactly what is being sent to WU, and any failure response being sent back.

Welcome windjack,
Stick with cumulus,

WD is very over engineered, noisy and complicated. :bash:
When it is it is ok, it is ok. When it is not it is a dog. (IMOH)

When cumulus plays up (And it is only usually data from the station) it is (With help from this forum) rather easy to rectify the problem.

Stick with us mate!

Gerard :D

Thanks for the help. A good friend once told me that people don't know how dumb you are unless you open your mouth and tell'em. Well here goes. In the configuration under internet and then under web site do I have to type in Weather Underground as the Host name? where do I get that info from and the directory and etc. I thought that all that was required was to check the appropriate boxes under bottom right "Weather Underground". Do I need to fill out the other portions as well, ie: web settings, aprs settings, etc. I will check the debug log now and see what it says, while I am waiting for an answer. Thanks windjack

No, that bit is nothing to do with WU; it's for your own site.

If it's just WU that you're trying to get working, then it's just the information in the WU settings box that is needed. The web settings are completely separate, as is APRS, etc etc

Well I was right, if you want them to know how dumb ya are just open your mouth and tell'em. I found the problem. I had capitalized the first letter of my password. Just plain forgot that was what I did. It is working fine now,,,,,,,I think.....Thanks for all the help. Windjack

I think we all make that sort of mistake at times  No matter how experienced, everyone makes mistakes at times. Glad you found the problem :)
