I am personally thrilled with vs. 1 It probably does almost everything I would want from the current modest weather station I have.

But I would say, unless there is a bulging wish list, park it, and let's see what the new kid on the block can do.

You mention it being more memory hungry - how much by I wonder?

I am currently running Windows 7 64bit with 4mb of ram and a 300mb ramdisk. I also use it for intensive satellite data downloading from Eumetsat.

Huge thanks,

James

By around a factor of 10. Cumulus 1 uses less than 20 MB, Cumulus 2 was using over 100 MB at times, the last time I looked. Much of this is down to the third-party components, and the eventual usage may be considerably different (in either direction).

For me I am happy with Cumulus 1 as it is, I'd be happy for it to be moved into a maintenance status and you concentrate on getting Cumulus 2 up and running. I don't know but I suspect adding features to C1 is going to get harder and the code more difficult to maintain - best to start with the new tools and a clean slate (now you know what you're really doing! )

Agreed here also.

You don't start a totally new direction and then drop back to the old ways, that would be like everyone going back to our Commodore 64's, though maybe not a bad thing.

Interesting that you should post in this thread at this moment, when I have just decided... no, I'll say no more for now.

Pretty good, those C64s... ;)

Hi Steve

I think as a developer you always have to go forward, so my vote would be to push on with Cumulus 2. I must admit now I have got Cumulus 1 up and running on my site all be it with gratefully received help from other forum users ( I am new the web site construction ) I think it is brilliant as it is.

Obviously Cumulus 2 will offer more but I personally don't know if I would change unless it had the ability to automatically update the the existing setup. I think that is something that might be worthwhile bearing in mind for the new version.

Thanks for all your effort on behalf of us plebs.
Regards
Doc

The fact that C2 was born, in the first place, means you know you can do it all differently and better. I say go with C2.

Some users are happy with WinXP, others jump to Vista then Win7.

I believe some will stay with C1, others will want the latest and greatest.

Chris

I as well vote for working on 2.0. As a fellow software developer, I'm looking forward to a newer foundation that will allow for more interesting features in the future. I'm especially excited about the System Service Feature so that I don't have to stay logged in!

1.9.x is generally fine as is for me (and it sounds like for a bunch of users in the forum). As it appears that you have invested a bunch of work already in 1.9.1, finish that up (no sense throwing out the baby with the bathwater) and then 2.0 full steam ahead!

Cheers!

Always! Forwards and Upwards. Put Cumulus1 into a maintenance status, put your energy into development for future. I would only suggest that you limit C2 beta to a select few testers, people with whom you have respected communications. Share progress to everyone else just to keep us anticipatory. Cumulus1 is working very nicely here. I can wait for the release of C2 and will be watching for it. Thanks for all you have done.

Having had no problems STILL from the latest version of 1, i would still say concentrate on number 2

I'm quite happy with C1 as it has all the info on just one page.

If C2 is developed then it could have a larger screen and have all the info on one page so that all the necessary data (minus individual graphs) could be viewed without having to click on tabs. Just my suggestion and preference. :)

Quite happy to do Beta testing of course. :)

Mike.

Ah well, here we have a classic example of not being able to please everyone. Those people running funny small screens would disagree with you. I suppose the answer is to have it all configurable, with a choice of what you see on the screen.
