Good news: Cumulus2 up and running :D (with a user password)

Viewer: graphs take a VERY long time.
(and 'daily rain' crashes, but that may be because of incorrect data from Cumulus1)

Excellent.

Oh dear. How long? How many entries in your database? You can view it from the editor in the Control app, but I suspect that will take a long time to open too. It takes a little while for me, but the graphs are pretty quick. What's the spec of your PC?

Possibly some very large or negative values somewhere.

20-40 seconds, depending on type of graph

I have data since Sept.2008, and database is about 42MB.
PC is dual-Atom (4 threads) with 2GB.

On the machine where I run Cumulus "for real", I've imported all of my data to get a 108MB database. It's a 3.4 Ghz Pentium 4 with 2GB RAM. Each graph opens in 3 or 4 seconds. On my development machine which is vastly more powerful and only has a 2MB database it (perhaps surprisingly) takes about the same time.

I wonder if the errors in your data are causing the graphs some problems... if you email me your database to steve@sandaysoft.com I'll see how it performs here.

My Cumulus2 database has many of these:
Attachment:
Format.PNG

Are they errors in conversion or not? My old eyes cannot see if the decimal sign is a period or a comma?

The corresponding entries in the monthly log:

Julylog.txt

They look OK to me, definitely commas. At some point I'll tidy up the editor so it doesn't display spurious decimal places, and do all the other things it needs.

I should get it to print the line number, it's not a lot of help when it's a blank line. Particularly as in this case when the blank line is at the end of the file:
Attachment:
blankdata.png

Until I get around to making it print the line number, a tip to get Cumulus 1 to detect the problem for you is to use Select-A-Graph to view the data. So for a problem in the July log, draw a graph from 30th June to 1st August, then look in the latest diags file:

21/08/10 12:55:05.509 : Error reading Jul10log.txt around line 38866: List index out of bounds (0)

Hi Steve,

I've been able to start the Cumulus Service although I did decide to set a password to my account as even the second version of the Cumulus Control setup failed to start the service. I opened Services and noticed against CumulusControl it said ./Ray Proudfoot whereas all other services had either Local Service or Network Service against them. I right-clicked the service and chose Properties. I then changed the option to Local Service.

I then configured my settings choosing COM20 as my virtual COM port as I run VirtualVP. However, running Cumulus Viewer results in a 'Faulted state' error - the same as bruce45 reported.

I'm attaching the bugreport which hopefully will help you.

The later version of the controller doesn't fix the 'no password' issue, that's a Windows restriction.

I don't understand why you did that? It won't work if you do that.

Okay, understood.

I changed it back to ./Ray Proudfoot and was able to open the Viewer. :D

I have some observations on All Time Records but I'll post those in a separate thread.

hi Steve not sure if this has anything to do with the new c2 but have ran it for afew hours with out any problem. closed the viewer down and started c1 and started getting new records flashing for rain rates for today. the service is still running should i have stopped that before starting c1 or is it a bug between the two?

i also still have the old c2 on another drive should that be removed?

You can't run two separate pieces of software at the same time with both communicating directly with one weather station, they will interfere and cause corrupt data and other problems. You have to close one down before starting the other. This applies equally to Cumulus 1 and Cumulus 2. With Cumulus 2 it's the service which is communicating with the station.

You'll need to restart Cumulus 1 from the backup created when you started it up, to correct your data.

Yes, you may as well, it's obsolete now.
