I realize there is a topic on this but i do not follow: ___http://sandaysoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=1307___

I have a Fine offset WH-1080 and the other week we had a huge 30mm dump but the Airport readings 30seconds away called 60.3mm i think that the Heavy rain is bouncing out and light rain wont slide in.

i am looking for a mod using a funnel with specific diameter and measurements needed to modify my station to not over read (too much) in a deluge and to be able to read quick light showers which happen very often even today 0.8mm at the airport 0mm on mine.

Much help would be awesome

Thanks

Antonio.

If you can't follow this one above, there are plenty of other threads, try this one:

I don't think anyone will start a new thread on this topic since there is already plenty of information in this forum.

that was not helpful even though it says 55cm2 catchment area how big is the diameter for that then? all ineed is the diameter size.

¶r²=55cm²
Therefore radius=4.18cm or diameter=8.37cm

But, when using Cumulus, the size of the funnel is not critical as a correction can be made within Cumulus. I suggest using a larger funnel as the original collector gives increments of 0.3mm. I have used a larger funnel and this gives me increments of gust over 0.1mm.

On your cumulus screen select "configuration" on the top line, then select "calibration". Rainfall is the bottom box on that screen.

I have got pretty accurate results using a rainfall calibration of .35 with a funnel that has a diameter of 138.8mm but others have different results. The best thing to do is buy a manual rain gauge and change the calibration to match the results from the manual gauge over time.
