Stevenson Screen

Post by callum91 »

Hello

I made a fairly cheap and basic Stevenson Screen to go over the top of my Watson W-8681. The sides and base are made from ventilation system parts (air vents that go on the side of buildings) and the top is a 4-sided pyramid made out of wood and painted white.

As far as I can tell, it has greatly reduced the problem of solar radiation heating the thermometer and I think it is still sufficiently ventilated to allow the air through.

Nice job ....

Thoughts;
The bottom is open to radiation from roof / tiles.

It is still rather high up, will it survive strong winds and / or wobble your rain guage ?

Nonetheless an admirable DIY solution :D

This is my old house.I have moved to a new one but i haven`t take photos yet.

The construction is from a friends idea.

I have even made the plastic tube with the fun but i didn`t use that power source.I used this solar panel

which turns fun with sun or with few clouds.
Eventually temperature is right.I checked it with another davis vantage pro station in town.
