HTML to embed image

Post by robynfali »

I want to put a webcam image up on my weather page (the standard ones made by steve) can someone give me an idea on how to do this,

the URL for the image will be

http://angleseyfirstresponse.co.uk/weat ... image1.jpg

(test image this one)

Also, does any html go into the .css file, or does it go into one of the html files?, I do apologise, but I can build a site, using dreamweaver, but CSS is a complete mystery to me!!

also can anyone recommend an amount of time for a new image, 5/10/20 mins etc? and do you put an autorefresh on the page? or just leave it for the visitor?

Oh, and a third request, just moved the computer, so that the webcam can be pointed out a window (its inside webcam) and due to it pointing west, on a sunset, its NOTHING but white, can I use a dark film or something in front of the lens?

You make the point that you want to 'refresh' the image, so take a look at this thread: https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... 10&start=0

People shouldn't really be sitting on a page for 20 min. - so think 30s => 5 min (dependent on any upload limits your host may have written in the small print).

DON'T POINT THE CAMERA IN THE SUNS PATH !
I know everyone wnats to include Sunshine in their pictures, but it will sooner or later 'burn' the sensor chip - even with the camera turned off (More expensive auto-iris lenses automatically close the iris on power-down)

Tricky! I'm thinking pole on the roof or maybe on the TV aerial mast if you have one. But then problems of getting up there, running a long cable, etc. USB has a limit unless you provide boosters in between. A post in the garden (if you have one) presents some problems too. A CCTV camera can use a longer cable than a USB webcam but you then need a TV receiver box for the computer (one with AV input).

You could get an "EasyCap" USB => A/V for £8+ from ebay - but of course then you want a CCTV that is waterproof and / or housing.

Although there are now some good 'last generation' CCTV cams with decent resolution and low light capabilities (the beteljuice got one for £12:50 with zoom lens just a few days ago).

You may even want to go the way of 4 channel USB => video and monitor the neighbourhood complete with motion detector record / alarms etc.

We have CCTV cameras around the smallholding here but I haven't got them connected to computer (as yet).

While on the subject of cameras, has anyone any ideas for clearing spiders and their webs from outdoor cameras? We have a CCTV camera covering the gates and yard with a good IR night vision range but it's almost useless at night due to cobwebs. I clean them off with a brush by hand but there is always a small spider back by night time complete with web!

There are spider repellent sprays you can buy - I can't vouch for how effective they are myself, but I've seen reports of them working reasonably well in garages/sheds/observatories. Or the old faithful conker! Again don't know if they work, but spiders are reputed to avoid them for some reason.

Bet you thought this post would never come up again hey?!!!!
Funny how someone askes a question (you) and all your replies didn't answer all of them?
Anyway, I'm no expert and can't quote HTML or CSS to save my life. But I have put up a webcam photo onto the standard webpage supplied by Steve. I had a look at your picture, it seems you have given up on it since September last year.
Anyway, I've added other photo's, so the small webcam picture (215x145) ties in well with the others. If you want bigger, I've seen someone use their webcam picture as the background picture! (editing the CSS file) Easy done. Let me know if your still interested, and I'll be glad to help anyway I can.
For me it was as simple as inserting this into indexT.htm:

Code: Select all

<img src="images/motion<#isdaylight>.jpg" height="145" width="215" alt="latest cam picture" class="floatRightClear">
And in the CSS.:

Code: Select all

@charset "UTF-8";
img.floatLeftClear {
    float: left;
    clear: left;
    margin: 4px;
}

img.floatRightClear {
    float: right;
    clear: right;
    margin: 4px;
}
This would put a photo on the right top, so you don't need the floatLeftClear. I did 'cause I got pictures both sides.
I'm sure you've learnt a lot since then, and probably have even adjusted your priorities on your weather station. But if this is what you want to revisit, please respond.

Oh BTW, I got to this from the thread you posted about puting text over the image. That's what I'm still trying to do. The search continues........
