Currently running VWS and WL with Virtual VP. I'd really like to simplify my life and I really like the look at Cumulus.

The question is, however:
Must I keep Weatherlink running in order to use Cumulus, or can I just use Cumulus to download data from my VP2, and post to Wunderground and APRS?

Cumulus can do the things you've mentioned. You would need to run Weatherlink if you wanted to change the logger interval in your station. You can't run Weatherlink at the same time as Cumulus under normal circumstances.

Using Cumulus to upload your data to WU and APRS/CWOP is so much easier to set up and run than either of the two programs you currently employ. I've been there and know firsthand.

You don't need to have either WL or VWS running at all, unless of course you want to. Just disable any internet data uploads in both.

A couple of tips: Make sure the Cumulus Station data log interval setting and the WL archive interval are the same. Just set them both for 10 minutes for ease.

If you're planning to continue running VirtualVantagePro, and there is no reason why you cannot or should not, there is a simple modification needed to be added in the Cumulus.ini file:

Open the Cumulus.ini file and in the [Station] section copy and paste the following line:
Code:
VP2SleepInterval=1100
click file then save, close and restart Cumulus.

OK. Two more questions:
I think VWS has the option to "upload archived data", so that if your connection to the internet goes down, when it talks to Wunderground again, it uploads readings that it got from the console while off line. Is there a way for Cumulus to do that?

Also, I've gotten SO confused as to whether WL, VWS, or both, store archive data on the local computer. And backing up, transferring or otherwise using that data has been equally confusing.

Does Cumulus create a local data file? If so, where is it? Can you move it from one 'puter to another if you get a new machine, etc.?

There's no option to catch up if the net connection goes down - it's something I could consider for a future version. From 1.9.1, it does catch up when it starts up with data from the logger that it 'missed' when it wasn't running.

Yes, all of the data is held in the 'data' folder in the Cumulus installation. In simple terms, you just need to copy/backup that folder, but there's a more detailed and complete set of instructions in the wiki.

Cumulus also uploads to PWS; a well laid out site, with good graphics.

Does Weatherlink only need to be run just for configuring the logger interval and then it can be closed again ?
Also does anything else have to be running like a service or something or does cumulus look after it all ?
Im a noob here so just asking as im looking at running cumulus on a dedicated mini PC which is limited in terms of RAM etc.

You only need to run WL to change the station logger interval. So yes, you can close it again afterwards. In fact, if you don't, Cumulus won't work.

Cumulus has everything it needs in the installer. Windows 2000 users may need to install gdiplus.dll if their system doesn't have it.
