I voted for C2. Primarily because the notion of separating the data collection from the data display seems much more elegant to me.

I just (this last weekend) started using Cumulus. I was drawn to the clean appearance of the interface, and dissatisfied with the very 80s "look" of the interface that came with my VP2. That, and the interface provided by Davis was very sluggish on my whiz-bang 21st-century Windows 7. Those two symptoms are a sure sign that a piece of software has lived beyond its prime.

Steve, your donation-ware project is far superior to the software that I purchased from Davis. Thank you for a job well done!

This poll is a bit out of date now. For various reasons, I decided to go ahead with more changes to Cumulus 1. I propose to have another release of Cumulus 1 after the current beta, in which I will add support for the Oregon Scientific WMR200 (etc) stations. I haven't decided what I will do after that, if anything at all.

Fair enough.

Sounds like you are discouraged or tired. Too bad. When I first saw cumulus, I wondered why you weren't selling it to Davis. Definitely a superior product.

HI,

I've already wrote to you Steve, I think that Cumulus is stable enough to be a commercial product!

I think that v.1 could be a "starter" software, free.
Cumulus II could be more modern in it's interface, for $69.... I bought my licence now!

A lot of person are playing with pleasure to the open architecture of Cumulus!

Personnaly, if something happend, I wont't follow to Davis... too expensive!
I'll turn plans to go to "Linux-on-Router" platform.

But, I LOVE Cumulus and plan a lot of "customisations" not possibles on other software!

Then Steve, we're more than glad with your job!

Jacques

I think what you have done with Cumulus 1 is great! I like it just the way it is. So I would love to see what new things, "eye candy" included, you will do with Cumulus 2. Can't wait to see the first Beta version.

I have a few more things to add to Cumulus 1 soon, but after that I'm thinking that I might well do some more on Cumulus 2.

I'm still running the C2 service and occasionally open the viewer on my other laptop so I'm ready for the next beta version Steve. As I run VirtualVP I can continue to run C1.

Yes, I'd better get on with that. Just this morning I had an email from someone who sent me a 10 eur donation a few months ago, wanting to know when I'm going to add WMR200 support, which he seems to think he has paid for.

I have to admit that I'm dithering (again) about whether to put it in C1 or C2; it will be much easier to do it in C2. But I'll probably have a go in C1 first and see how it goes.

I'm fairly new to Cumulus, but I'm really happy with C1. Sometimes when you find something so stable and simple to manage, you just aren't interested in something new. I guess I just don't always want/need the latest gizmo so much anymore.

Whatever direction you decide to go, I hope C1 will always be available.

My 2 cents.

I ‘am also new to Cumulus (WMR-200 user), and so far I’ am very happy with C1 beta.
But if I look at the screens of C2.................nice and very good!

Hi Steve

i understand that you have stopped work on cumulus 2 which is a big disappointment but I can understand the issues you have raised in the announcement you made.

Having said that can I ask what the costs would be for you to revisit cumulus 2 and release a final version? If we know that maybe as a combined effort all the cumulus 1 users could come together and support the project further.

I only ask as there are features that were going to be in C2 that are a necessity, one of those being the ability to edit the data recorded (to correct errors) within cumulus itself as it is somewhat difficult to edit the data via the text files as often one over rides another and the old data still finds its way into the records, even though I have tried to remove it. maybe I need a guide on how the text files are structured so I can be sure to be editing the correct part of each line, maybe you can define each part (and each file) please, i.e. date, rainfall, wind, etc so I can be sure I am editing them correctly.

So I guess to end my post, what will you be adding to C1 that was going to be in C2?

Thanks

GW

Just a quick note to say Toolbox, for Cumulus, has built in editors for all the files.

I'm sure a native editor will come along in C1 at some point

The data editors in Cumulus 2 were basically the same as provided by David's toolbox for Cumulus 1, and the new editors for highs and lows in 1.9.2.

The formats of the files are in the help and the wiki.

I'm afraid I have no idea. But I do tend to use the enhancement requests as a guide to what to add.
