Hi all,

Ive just installed Weatherlink, followed by Cumulus (cumulus was the one I want but thought I needed to put weatherlink on to get the driver for the usb cable happening :-/)

Unfortunately I ran Weatherlink because to begin with I couldn't get Cumulus communicating, and I thought Id check if Weatherlink could. Which it did, and then proceeded to download the data from the datalogger on my vantage vue.
Now when ive gone back to cumulus, and managed to get it communicating (cough cough, putting the correct com port in) It wont download anything from the logger. The Downloading window sits there for a full minute but the blue progress indicator bar doesnt even appear.

Can someone tell me if Weatherlink actually removes the data from the logger completely when it does a download, or will it be another reason It's not downloading into Cumulus?

My next question, if the first answer is that the datalogger is empty, is whether there's a way I can suck the info from Weatherlink to put into Cumulus?

Hope that makes sense :-/
Appreciate any assistance

Beno

Weatherlink doesn't delete the data unless you tell it to, so it should still be there. If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll see what it's doing. You may just not have left it long enough, although you do know that it doesn't actually download 'old' data by default?

http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/FAQ#I.E2.80.99ve_just_installed_Cumulus.2C_and_it_didn.E2.80.99t_download_all_the_old_data_from_my_weather_station

It could well be having to download the entire contents of the logger, if you haven't set your station logging interval to the same as your Cumulus interval, because of the odd way the Davis logger works if asked for data since a time that it doesn't have an exact entry for.

If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll have a look, but I suspect the answer is as above.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for your reply :)

Yes, you were correct. I followed the link you provided, changed the date of the timestamp, and it was the longest download ive witnessed haha.
But it grabbed it all. @9th December, so I now have all this year's data back.

I will have a look tomorrow to check whether any of the values are messed up like your link mentioned.

Thanks ever so much for your help. :)

Regards,
Beno

Hi Steve,

Sorry to drag this one back up again but I am once again having issues getting data from data logger.

For some reason I appeared to have lost some information on graphs. This led me to have a look and see if there was an updated release of cumulus. I'd been using version 1.8.9, noticed there was now v1.9.1 and downloaded it.

I backed up the data folder in the cumulus folder, installed it, ran it and set up the comms and info required, then closed it. I changed the timestamp entry in the today.ini file back to 30th Dec 2010, and ran Cumulus again. It didn't download past data at all. :(
It's connected to the station and displaying realtime info but just hasn't downloaded the info from the logger it seems.

I then installed it on a newer computer which is a quicker one than the one I was using it on, and did the same things, but again it doesn't download previous data at all.

Is there something I don't appear to be doing right, or do you have any advice I could try?

Thankyou

Davis Vantage Vue with Usb Data Logger

Please zip up the diags folder and attach it.

Thanks Steve.

Ive since managed to get it to read data back to 19/01/2011 by looking at the diags file and finding that date in it, then placing that into the timestamp of the today.ini. It used to go back to the 29th of December 2010, however.

There does seem to be a period between April 24th and May 11th that simply isn't there. I've no idea why it just seems to have stopped logging???

Thanks for your assistance.

The earliest data in your logger is from 20th March:

12/05/2011 23:49:29.609 : VP2: Earliest timestamp 20/03/2011 5:00:00 PM

But the latest data in the logger is from 23rd April:

12/05/2011 23:54:49.546 : VP2: processing logger data entry 1615 for 23/04/2011 8:30:00 AM

So it looks like your logger stopped logging at that time. You could try running Weatherlink and resetting the logger interval, this has worked for others when the logger apparently stopped logging.

Thanks Steve.

Ive got the records back, apart from that period where it appears to have stopped logging.

Don't know why it would have stopped, so that's a bit disappointing.

Appreciate your help once again :)

Hello Steve
I have just downloaded your software and so far think it is just what I am looking for - user friendly.
I have been following the data logger posts with great interest as my own stopped working whilst i was away (battery failure) so I lost some days of data.
Is there any way I can get the data into Cumulus whilst at the same time excluding the missing bits? I entered 1stJan2011 to present day for Cumulus but it seems to have just picked up April and May.
Thanks/Regards
Terry

That's probably as far back as your logger has the data for. To have more than 2 months, you would have needed to have had your station's logger interval set to more than 30 minutes.

I thought it probably was. That gives you just over 53 days, so back to April 3rd from today.

Sorry to go on Steve but is 53 days the max one can go back - although my own records go back to 2007 I was hoping to at least have the whole of 2011 included (Jan to present)

The VP2 has 2560 memory locations. So, at an interval of 30 minutes, that covers 1280 hours, which is just over 53 days. So the oldest entry in your station's logger currently is from April 3rd. It's therefore impossible for Cumulus to download any data from before April 3rd from your logger - it simply isn't there.
