REPORTING RAIN TO APRS/CWOP

Post by jpaone18 »

:bash: When checking my Data displayed on MESOWEST I found that MESOWEST was not reporting the rain from CWOP. When I queired CWOP, I got the following reposonse < Why isn't my rain data being displayed on MADIS and MesoWest? The APRS weather format allows for three types of precipitation measurements to be coded into the data packet as discussed above. However, MADIS only accepts two of these, the rate (rxxx in hundredths of inches per hour) and the 24 hour precipitation (pxxx in hundredths of inches). So, if your data packet does not contain rxxx or pxxx, there are no rain data that can be forwarded to MADIS or MesoWest.

Could you please read and advise?

Cumulus sends 'rain in the last hour' (rxxx) and 'rain so far today' (Pxxx) to CWOP. It currently has no way of determining the rain in the last 24 hours (pxxx) so cannot send this to CWOP.

Steve, Thank you for your quick reply. I sent your answer to Russ at APRS (Russ@wxqa.com) and I asked him to look at my incoming Data File and he said the following:

"You are sending two Pxxx in your packets. You should only be sending one. I don't know if this causes a problem or not. I suggest you get rid of the duplication."

Please let me know what I can do or send you - please send a response to my email joepaone@gmail.com.

When I added some code to make sure the figure for today's rain sent to CWOP is always the 'since midnight' figure, even for those (like me) using an 0900 rollover, I've introduced a bug where I put the rain string in twice. I'll fix it in the next build.

Steve thanks, come to think of it, when I updated the software with the 1005 build, I think, I started getting a "duplicate data file??" can remember the exact error, I was going to send it to you but the new 1009 build came out and I wrote over the exact error.

Thank yopu for your help Would you like me to Beta Test for you , I do work with several companies like Microsoft, Symantec and Diskeeper?

You're already beta testing, you're using 1.9.2.

Yes, quite some time ago. It's now also sending 'rain in the last 24 hours' to CWOP.

Which build are you using?
