Major Winter Storm for UK, Northwestern Europe

High winds, slashing rain and heavy snow will whip areas of Northwestern Europe from the United Kingdom to Scandinavia on Thursday and Friday.

Travel by road, rail, sea and air will be subject to delay or cancelation.

The worst of the storm will target northern and central UK, along with the nearby Irish Republic, on Thursday into Friday night.

Wind speeds of 40 to 60 mph (about 65-95 km/h) will be reached in many areas, and winds may top 75 mph (120 km/h) at sea and over hills.

Heavy, wind-blown snow will cover higher ground in Scotland, where open areas of the Highlands could get a blizzard. Snow will also lay over hills of Ireland to northern England.

Thursday night and Friday, the storm center will shift east to Scandinavia. At this time, the highest winds on land will target coastal areas of Denmark, southern Sweden, northern Germany and Netherlands.

Heavy snow will blanket much of eastern Norway with upwards of 1 foot (30 cm) burying Oslo. Heavy snow will reach into western Sweden

Seriously, the winds could be damaging in central Scotland so the hatches need to be battened down. Stay safe everyone.

Saw this on the weather forecast this evening....looks liek it's going to blowing a hurley, whatever one of them is lol

Yes, it looks like they're going to get much worse than us, and of course it has a far more serious effect there.

Yes, but bear in mind that's quite high up (564 m). The BBC say Aonach Mor (even higher) has had a gust of 130 mph.

Getting a bit hairy here now. Storm Force 10 and approaching 11. Highest gust 89 mph, equalling my highest ever. Power going on and off every few seconds, and all kinds of unidentified debris being blown around and at the windows.

The power seems to have gone off permanently now, so I'll have to close down.

Take care we only have force 9 on the coast and 6 in the middle of The Netherlands some gusts up to 100 km/hr I think we cannot hold force 11 over here...

Well, survived Hurricane Bawbag as it's being called here :lol:

A few roof slates off and the sensor pole weighed down with sandbags ensured no wee accidents with the kit which performed just fine.

That was quite a blow.
