Morning,
Most web hosting companies charge or use adverts to get revenue. I have used hosting4hobbies. It has allowed me to create and use a page for free, the only thing is you need to have hosting4hobbies as part of the address. Try it http://hosting4hobbies.info

Then follow the detailed help given in the forum for setting up the webpage. http://wiki.sandaysoft.com/a/Simple_Website_setup

Enjoy....

Your Internet Service Provider probably gives you some web space. You need to make sure that they allow you to ftp (upload on-demand from your PC) rather than only by a control panel.

Later on you may wish to consider things like PHP, mySQL, bandwidth allocation - but that's for when you decide to get clever and have only 30 mins sleep a day

Having your own domain name is no great hardship either technically or financially, I recommend everyone should have one if only so you can have a million mail names that never have to change !
The easiest option is to 'buy' a name from eg. http://www.123-reg.co.uk and then 'forward' it to where ever (and when ever) your real web space is. (and the same for the mail which is part of it)

EDIT: Oh well , must be in a rush
