Being an inquisitive type, I'm intrigued to know how the rainfall gauge on the WH3081 (and clones) works. It's a box with a little hole on the top and I noticed that I get rainfall indication when the box is moved, hence why I've changed the mounting place to somewhere more secure. No more false readings.

It doesn't feel as though there's a tip mechanism there so can anyone explain how the thing actually does what it does and measures rainfall please?

Thanks.

It's a 'tipping bucket' which operates a reed switch. See http://sandaysoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2685
