Hi Everyone,

I another very happy user of cumulus. Have had it running with a XC0348 station for a coupla years without a problem.

Recently upgraded to an Oregon WMR200 and version 1.9.2 build 1030. The software upgrade worked fine, still with XC0348 at that stage. The machine is running XP.

When I tried changing the station the downloading data box just hangs there, no bar moving across the screen. I have left it for 45minutes with no change.

Forums suggest that the station is not sending info to cumulus, so i tried resetting the station, both via complete powerdown (batteries + PSU) and via the reset button. No luck.

Also tried a clean install on a win7 machine, same result just downloading data.

Has anyone else had any problems here? Am I just being impatient and not waiting long enough?

Would appreciate any help, I've spent a fair bit of time going through the readme, forums and wiki.

Thanks
Lee

The WMR200 can take a very long time to send the contents of its logger - a full logger could take well over an hour - so it could be that you're not waiting long enough. But I think you would still see the timestamp changing on the 'downloading data' screen while Cumulus was processing the data.

If you edit cumulus.ini and put

logging=1

into the [Station] section, this will turn on the debug log by default, and the debug.log file will show what the station is sending to Cumulus.

Thankyou Steve,

I set the logging flag as suggested, then followed the following steps (with a slight modification to step 4 cause it's a bit early for the pub)

1. Shutdown PC.
2. Un-plug USB & Remove batteries.
3. Restart PC.
4. Retire to the pub for a swift pint.
5. Re-insert batteries, plug in USB. Also reset time/timezone and barometer altitude
6. Cup of tea.
7. Re-start Cumulus.

After waiting 3 hours I got the following messages in the debug file (just copied last few entries) see below...

I am pretty certain it's not an error with cumulus, so I have messaged manufacturer of the station to see if they can shed some light.

Thanks for your help, I'll post what the manufacturers come back to me with.

Yes, the station isn't sending any data to the PC.

Hi All,

Just an update, I spent a week convincing Oregon Scientific that the unit wasn't functioning, emails back and forth and alot of tedious explaining of how I installed and related things. Then I sent it in for repair and two weeks later they managed to confirm what Steve correctly asserted in a day or two. I just got the unit back, minus the power supply and usb cable and was finally able to get it going!!
It goes to show what a great job Steve has done with cumulus and the superior level of support that he offers us for free. I will be donating tonight!!

So finally plugged it in, tested first with Oregons software and it failed to pick up the external temperature sensor, bugger!! Next I tested it with cumulus & hooray worked perfectly.

When I first plugged it in the "downloading data" show the date and time of the records it was passing through so I could easily see progress. It took a while but seeing it was brand new it didn't have to pull 100's of records.

Running well with the 1032 build of v1.9.2

Had an immediate drop of humidity (20%) an increase of pressure (1014 to 1018) and the pressure curve is a lot less accurate, big blocks of 1mB changes rather than 0.1mB resolution I was getting with a $150 station.

Would highly recommend cumulus but will never again purchase an Oregon product.

Thanks again to Steve

They're nice in some ways, but as you've discovered, limited in some ways - such as the resolution (and accuracy) of the barometer.

Hi Steve,

I have the WMRS200 and have a similar problem as Lee, but for me I can see in debug.log that data is transferred. However, after a few minutes Cumulus hangs (both download window and program window turn white) and I have to kill it.

I have used (and still use) Cumulus with LaCrosse WS-23x0 and it works fine (on another computer/location than this Oregon station).

From my debug.log:

Cumulus debug log
4218.5391 : Sending DA
4218.5406 : 05:06:30 Data: 06 FF 00 60 02 00 22 1E
4218.5406 : 05:06:30 USB device is plugged in
4218.5406 : Sending DA
4218.5406 : 05:06:30 Data: 07 00 13 04 07 00 A2 00
4218.5406 : 05:06:30 USB device is plugged in
...

4269.7453 : Sending DA
4269.7453 : 05:15:02 Data: 05 FF 00 48 09 0C 00 F1
4269.7453 : 05:15:02 USB device is plugged in
4269.7453 : Sending DA
4269.7469 : 05:15:02 Data: 07 00 00 00 00 20 7D 00
4269.7469 : 05:15:02 USB device is plugged in
4269.7469 : Sending DA

...and then the file stops.

I have attached my debug.log and Cumulus.ini here:

The WMRS200 is not a WMR200 (it has no data logger, for example). Confusingly, it is a variant of the WMR100, so you need to use that setting in Cumulus.

Thanks Steve, it works perfectly now. This is indeed a confusing naming convention by Oregon. I don't mind not having data logger since the station is on 24/7 anyway, but I thought the feature of having up to 10 sensors was nice (although I haven't added more sensors yet).

I agree with Lee on the poor barometer, it's surprisingly bad.
