Hi. So my Fine Offset has been making me pulling my hair since the first 2 months I had it with successive signal losses, bugs, inaccuracies, etc. I wanted to sell it for more money for the Davis but this seems to be impeding me.. Hmm. But that's not the issue, so I live in a 5 floor (roof) building and I live in the 2nd floor. The Fine Offset does get signal from the last floor but as I said it sometimes bugs and what not, so I asked people if the Vue would definitely get lossless signal from that distance and they said yes, but I'd like to ask here, would the Vue not bug with this 3 floor distance? I know people who have it more than 3 floors and they're fine but....
I'm done with FO.

Thanks.

I'd doubt very much you would suffer any signal loss with the Vantage Vue.

I have mine placed in the garden, which is about 60meters form the console. The signal passes through 3 walls to the front room of the house where the console is. Never had an issue with signal loss or drop outs.

According to the manual the range is :

Range:
Line of Sight ................................................................. up to 1000 feet (300 m)
Through Walls............................................................... 200 to 400 feet (60 to 120 m)

Hope this helps :D

My current FO is around 13m (height) from where I am (The building being ~20m), so thanks for the information, I'm confident :D Now the time to buy it just has to come.

I have my Vantage Vue on top of a four storey building and the console in our office which is of concrete construction and i have no problem whatsoever on loss of signal.

How do you get on about temperature and rainfall readings with it being that high?
Mine is around 4.5 metres, and the rainfall readings are very dodgy if it's windy. I got to test it out back in January when it got quite bad here, i had my old WMR 200 gauge at around 3 feet from the ground, and it recorded 20+mm, whereas the Vue only recorded around 3mm.

Well, is the mast held up properly so it doesn't shake?

It's sturdy, but my post was regarding the wind blowing the rain so the Vue doesn't catch it properly. The higher the Vue goes, you're more likely to get poor rain recordings. This happens a lot if there is hefty showers with gusty winds, quite a noticeable difference from the WMR 200 rain gauge.

My view is up about 3 .5 meters, I do not seem to have any problms with rain, having said that we have not had much rain here since I had it.

I can confirm absolutely no signal drop out with the Vue.

Take the plunge and get one, you wont look back.

Heh, good to know :D But now, there's still some money remaining, time will come... But for now, Fine Offset torture!

Hey, sorry to be reviving this topic but I've got a question. I'm getting my Vue from the States, but, is it possible to change all the units from US to metric? Like rainfall...? Thanks.

You need to buy the Vantage Vue "metric" version. I found http://www.scientificsales.com/Davis-Va ... s-s/34.htm to be the best price.

Buy weatherlink and the data logger (2 different types) at the same time to save on you postage. (my big mistake !!)

I can also supply a datalogger that works with the Vue, USB or Serial Version for £50, that includes worldwide postage.

Does your USB version completely emulate the official version? In theory, Cumulus should be able to work in USB mode, but for some reason it doesn't. I've been considering getting a USB logger to see if I can find out why it doesn't work.

I know people with an American Pro2 operating here, I don't see why the Vue wouldn't work even though I know the frequencies are illegal, that usually passes here

My next worry has been some of the problems people report with the Vue's, hope I'm lucky and mine doesn't have any problems because my FO already gives me enough headaches :bash:
