I'm getting bad daytime temp readings at the moment especially on Sunny Days.

I've seen some other topics on this, and read a few documents about this but ii can't find a place to get Any of the bowls discussed in this thread.

I think it's going to be the sun effecting the results, but try as I might I can't find any of these melamine plates to use at a good price.

If anyone has a good place to get some from, at a decent price I'd be grateful.

Hi, i am in the process of making a Screen using - http://www.screwfix.com/p/manrose-squar ... vent/15818 - very cheap and with a few other bits and bobs not too hard to knock together
I too am getting higher than expected 'sunny' temps... and after reading many diy posts about Stevenson screens, decided to have a go...I will post results when its all up and running...

The original design of these small home made screens used plant pot saucers (painted white if required) instead of melamine bowls, so you might want to consider those instead.

Thanks for the ideas.

I think the wood option is going to be a bit too big for my garden and the location.
Have tried with some small plant pots but failed on that as the plant pots were too small and I didn't space them well enough.

Will have another search in the garage of junk, but I do like the idea of the screw fix one, I think I should be able to make one up like that.

Let me know how you guys get on and what sort of results you get please.

If I come up with anything I'll post my plans.

Here's a few pics of the screen so far.... I plan to add a pent roof with a gap between and i have to get some other bits for the base...
Hopefully i will finish it soon... and fit in position.

Lol i could have told you that....actually quite funny...on the way back from a walk in Cromford this morning i passed a Tesco's with a stream of cars driving into the car park and then turning around and streaming back again after realising the lights were out!
Anyway thanks for the encouragement, not sure about the painting black, i have read this is what some people do. I am thinking i would like to try it out first in white and compare to a local met weather station, with a view to change if the results are not as hoped for..

Just been to Screwfix, and got the venting grills.

What size wood are you using to make the frame.
I've still to get those bits.

How is your one coming along, I got frustrated trying to make the frame out of some bits I had lying around but just couldn't get it right.

Hi sorry for this late reply .... i have be off line with some problems for a while, but hopefully i am back now.
Yes i had a bit of an headache to0, building it...Trial and error....
Best if you use g-clamps and make a square to sit it in... the frame was just some cheap 1.5 X 3/4 inch wood chopped to length...
I used wood screws through the original hole in the vents. I found that by putting in the diagonal pieces in the strength/stability improved tenfold!... hope this helps..
Also i used some decent silicon sealer to make water tight the roof (perspex sheet) and finally put a pent roof on - actually a cut to size 1 inch thick piece of wood that i had painted with white gloss with a wedge of wood at on end, for added heat dissipation...

Going a different route now, gt a cheap VP off eBay, and now starting to add some additional sensors to that.

Just waiting on the anometer and the temp/humidity sensor, and will see how it all goes.

I confirm SJG1976 comments and likewise was very disappointed with the accuracy of temperatures on sunny days.

The plates solution looked a nice option, but too difficult for me! So I opted for the easier option already described here and elsewhere using the screwfix ventilation grills which cost approximately £6.70 ($10.77) for all four. The wood I managed to scavenge and the paint I already had, so it was a cheap do, and so far I am happy with the latest data, which correlates with surrounding stations. Like the original stevenson screen I ensured that ventilation above a below was unimpeded.

Yes, definitely.

When I first tried the WMR200 in early April when we had sunny days the readings were around 64f when official stations were giving 60f. For sure it is still early days here and I will closely monitor it over the summer. I would say though that because of the predominance of overcast days, that high readings are not as noticeable here in NW England, unlike where you are in sunny Colorado.

Today we have a sharp sun, little bit of a breeze, and and my reading is 57, which is in keeping with the local official weather stations.

So, so far so good
