I just swapped the batteries in my 1081 transmitter and now I can't get it ti pick up the time signal. If I recall, I think there was some strategy on the exact directional placement of the transmitter. I don't think I changed mine but it's possible.

Is there such a scheme? It's been 3 days since I changed the batteries (lithium - changed them due to 1 year's use).

The WWV signal used for setting clocks, sent from the WWVB transmitter, has a very low frequency (60 kHz) which propagates only at night. Wait 'till tomorrow to see if it got through.

Oops, just saw you've already waited three days. I am unaware of placement, other than getting it higher in the house (or at least above ground) and in a window facing Colorado.

EDIT: You also mention the transmitter. The WWVB receiver will be in the console, not the sensor/transmitter unit. I could be wrong about that, I don't own one.

If it ain't broke.... . But seriously, I'd expect Lithiums to work for much more than a year (but probably not as long as Charlie's 10 year prediction). Or did the Low TX battery icon come on? I guess you mean it's a 1080 as the 1081 doesn't have the RTC facility.

The RTC clock antenna runs across the wider dimension of the External Transmitter box so I believe the longer side needs to face towards the timesignal transmitter. If it hasn't locked after afew days then the first thing to try is to remove and replace batteries in the transmitter and the receiver (and disconnect the USB).

For $5.00 I thought it was cheap insurance and not having the exact time on the console is no big deal as I time sync my station PC daily anyways. This is just curious as it was always for months on end. I'll turn it 90 degrees tomorrow am.
