Does your USB version completely emulate the official version? In theory, Cumulus should be able to work in USB mode, but for some reason it doesn't. I've been considering getting a USB logger to see if I can find out why it doesn't work.

both cumulus and weatherlink will see my logger as a virtual com port, so the short answer is "no".

I think the Davis logger also appears as a virtual com port, and Davis tech support have (AFAIK) even suggested running weatherlink in serial mode with a USB logger if you have problems. I use the more reliable FTDI usb chipset, wheras Davis use the pretty ropey Prolific chipset

That is what I was told by Davis when I had some difficulty in my initial set up in 2008.

belfryboy,

I purchased a serial connector here in the US for my Vantage Vue connected to Cumulus. What advantages would I gain using your logger over the direct serial connection with Cumulus?

I've had the old 'Low battery transmitter 1' message appear today. Tested the battery, it's absolutely fine, but the message is still appearing on the console. I've read all over forums that this is a known problem. :?

That's what worries me :? But I know at least two people with the message that never had a single problem after, and it's been 2 years.

The datalogger clone I produce has the full Davis functionality, including Datalogger. With this you can have your station running without the PC and not lose any data.

I'm interested in giving it a try as I may purchase another Davis weather instrument in the near future. Do you have a link or can you please email me the details?

Cheers,

Pete

This has been copied from another thread, but I think it will answer your questions.

Follow this link to the WXforum "build your own datalogger" thread.

it has AFAIK been used on VP1, VP2, envoy, Vue.

The USB logger has the same logging capabilities as a Davis branded logger. I have delivered around 30 so far, to the following countries;

USA
Australia
New Zealand
Spain
Norway
Wales
