Kevin

I am slowly going through the pdf help files for the installation of these graphs. I have downloaded your files and uploaded these to my cumulus directory on the website. I have altered the graphsettings.php and uploaded that aswell

1. On the rainfall section you have a blank entry "\"" - I assume I replace the slash with mm for Millimeters ? or do I keep the "\" in place

$SITE['rainunit'] = "\mm"";

2. The major point - can you give me further instruction on where and what I should be doing with the downloaded " JpGraph PHP Libraries" - I have downloaded the free version but not sure where this should go and do I need to do anything.

I am gratefull for your time and the way you have gone to the trouble of a comprehensive pdf file but I am not as computer literate as I would like to be, it does need to be made a little simplier ( well for me anyway). I would also like to know what the end web address will be of the various graphs etc it will produce.

http://www.bramptonweather.co.uk/cumulus - this is where everything is at the moment, where everything has been uploaded to, nothing visible asyet apart from the old stuff.

many thanks

Hi Paul,
I think the best way to start this is to install jpgraph first and test it before you try to make Kevin's graphs.
1.create a folder in bramptonweather.co.uk called jpgraph
2.upload the src-folder you find inside your downloaded jpgraph-package into the folder you created
3.if all was ok you can go now to http://YOURWEBSITE/jpgraph/src/Examples/testsuit.php

and you should see all kind of different graphs

This is the first step, after this is working OK, you can go on with Kevin's package

Hope this helps

Jozef

this is ok for you $SITE['rainunit'] = "mm";

EDIT: if you have jpgraph working you can delete the Examples folder or you can look at the examples to learn more

I am adding a section of installing the JpGraph PHP libraries... I've not actually loaded them in a long time, I just copy them from another website. I use the Pro version, so I have downloaded the free version and am doing an install to see what the actual steps might been It's been a long time.

If the ones that are not working are complaining about imageantialias(), you won't need to worry about that as that function is not being used in the Cumulus JpGraph graph scripts.

If you see errors talking about missing fonts.... it is most likely because it can't find the TrueType fonts.

The newly updated PDF document that I created has a section on how you can fix that. You can download it from my Cumulus Project page (look for the PDF link). You don't need to redownload the entire zip file for it.

Tks I will take a look

But I'm still unsure on how to configure it all. As per my previous posts.

OK - after reading your updated help file I have now downloaded the correct !! jpgraph software. I have created a folder called jpgraph and uploaded the "src" file into that. I have then uploaded the fonts from my windows directory into a folder called fonts

Q. Should this folder be within jpgraph folder or within "src" folder

eg. http://www.bramptonweather.co.uk/jpgraph/src/

http://www.bramptonweather.co.uk/jpgraph/fonts/

I also appear to have problems with the examples, as they are still looking for the ttf fonts

Q. Is this setup correctly via the. jpg-config.inc.php.

// DEFINE("CACHE_DIR","/tmp/jpgraph_cache/");
// DEFINE("TTF_DIR","/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/");
DEFINE("TTF_DIR","/PATH_TO_YOUR_WEBROOT/jpgraph/fonts/");
// DEFINE("MBTTF_DIR","/usr/share/fonts/ja/TrueType/");

Mine is ("TTF_DIR","/bramptonweather.co.uk/jpgraph/fonts/ - I think ? but it still doesnt show all the graphs/charts correctly.

If I get to this stage and its all working. How do I get the cumulus graphs working. I dont understand the transition, its not clear to me how it all works together. I am getting the feeling that all this php and graphs is for experts and not just for weather fans that like to have an intresting website and a good set of data available on line.
any help would be appreciated
tks

I have fiddling on with this for most of the afternoon with email help from Steve, without him I wouldnt have got anywhere at all. But unfortunatley have come to a halt.

Setting up these graphs has proved , in my opinion, very hard and is not for the novice. I had never heard of a "Cron job" until this afternoon. I still have no idea what it means, but have set my website up with the following.

/usr/local/bin/php /home/paulc/bramptonweather.co.uk/cumulus/realtimelog.php - does this look correct

The GraphSettings.php has been setup and uploaded and Realtime script amended and uploaded

The test suit works - http://www.bramptonweather.co.uk/jpgrap ... stsuit.php

But non of the graphs appear to work eg http://www.bramptonweather.co.uk/cumulus/baro.php

Can anyone point me in the right direction now. I feel a few tweaks and I,m there

thanks

Hi Paul

you are doing just fine

the reason your graphs are not working is that in:
http://www.bramptonweather.co.uk/cumulus/realtime.log
there are no entries for minutes 00 or 15 or 30 or 45

Are you updating this file with a cronjob every minute ?

Jozef

I think the answer would be " I dont know"

I went to my settings for the website in general and set it up for 1 minute intervals, is that what you mean ?

thanks

No, what I mean is, did you follow this

viewtopic.php?f=14&t=130

this script will produce your realtime.log from the realtime.txt you setup in the internet settings from cumulus

so I guess you do not not use cron, but used your browser to update the realtime.log

Jozef
(sorry if i may sometimes sound rude, but i'm not native english, and this makes it difficult to expain myself correctly)

Jozef - Dont worry, you are not rude in the slightest. Hope you can understand me !! - I wouldnt have known you were from Belgium, your written English is very impressive.

As for the reply, I,m not sure what we did. Steve hosts my website and was able to add in the file. I would say that NO I didnt use cron. I have read through the forum link but its over my head.

cheers
Paul

We set up a cron job using the hosting provider's control panel, but it doesn't seem to be calling the script. I manually added a few entries by invoking the script from a browser, but we were getting errors (something about an array being expected). I looked at the baro.php script and realised that the PHP errors we were getting were because there were no entries on the hour, so I waited until quarter past the hour, generated an entry, and called the script with freq=2.

We now get: Fatal error: Call to undefined method Text::Pos() in /home/.juice/paulc/bramptonweather.co.uk/cumulus/baro.php on line 180

And we still have the problem of the cron job not executing.
