Which white paint would best reflect the suns rays and retains less heat ? For the temperature shield.

High gloss white or dead flat white and is oil paint better then the 100% acrylics now being made.

I actually painted mine with several layers, and on the top it was high gloss white. Never had any negative results. However due to the fact it has more layers of white below (below is totally flat white), pieces of the gloss get ripped if it rains for some time, but I think any should do well!

I don't know, but a flat white 'emulsion' type always seems best to me. As they all probably use titanium dioxide as the 'whitener' there may not be much between them. To what surface is it to be applied?

Most shields are made of plastic.

This is a radiation sheild ...

So outside as reflective as possible, inside matt (blackboard) paint.

The beteljuices final sensor housing was actually stainless steel mesh around a stainless steel tube with a black cartridge paper inner sleeve, and of course it should be ventilated.

Although it sounds fancy it was actually a recycled garden lamp surrounded by a cheap barbeque grill

I had a grey plastic radiation shield which would heat considerably during spells of sunny weather.
The only thing I found that would "stick" to it was what is generically just called Hammerite in the UK.
This is the brand name though, so I don't know if it's available in Canada or whether there is a local equivalent.
It certainly reduced the over heating (but didn't fully eliminate it comparing results to nearest official met station).
However it was an improvement.

On the outside of my box screen I use the kind of white paint they spray on radiators. On the inside, the kind of black they spray on barbecues. Comparisons are difficult, but this seems to keep the temperature right down in direct sun, and more like what the air temperature feels like in the shade.
