Give ProData a call. No point me watching any longer. I’ve seen the issue once in 60+ updates.

yes just looked at your gauges, seem like more 360 than anything else in the last 5 minutes.

Re: 2nd Anemometer Failing
I experience this too. I have the same set-up with a separate transmitter for wind. It is my experience that there may be some water ingress in to the transmitter unit where the anemo wire enters. Mine happens when there has been wind-driven precipitation. I fix it by cleaning the rj11 plug and socket and attempting to waterproof it.
Not saying that yours has the same cause - just offering my experience for consideration.

Re: 2nd Anemometer Failing
It's difficult for me to check the transmitter and plug, as it's 10m up on a chimney. I have to borrow a friends double ladder and also hire a roof ladder as the pitch of the roof is too steep to walk up.

Re: 2nd Anemometer Failing
My anemometer is attached to a pole on the chimney breast but the transmitter is much lower. Below the bathroom window above a flat porch roof. Easy access with a short stepladder.
Why not use the full length of the cable to place the transmitter at a more convenient location?

I've got no place it'll reach to be to get any sunshine. I also don't like cables running down the roof as they're prone to getting damaged by rubbing on the tiles.RayProudfoot wrote: ↑Thu 23 Mar 2023 12:33 pm My anemometer is attached to a pole on the chimney breast but the transmitter is much lower. Re: 2nd Anemometer Failing
Understood on your first point. My cable has been laid across my roof for years. It’s static. No rubbing.
What style of house? Unusual you haven’t a E, SE, S, SW or W facing wall.

Not allowed to put anything on the wall on the public side.RayProudfoot wrote: ↑Thu 23 Mar 2023 1:23 pmUnderstood on your first point. My cable has been laid across my roof for years. It’s static. No rubbing.

The cable rubbing is an issue for me. My sky dish is on the backside of the house, and the point of entry is on the opposite side, so the cable had to be run over the roof. It has broken about 6 times in the last 10 years due to rubbing on the rough tiles.

The photo is deceiving; that roof is extremely steep, and very high.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure it's the potentiometer that is failing, that's what I was told with the last anemometer when I sent it back.
I emailed John yesterday, but haven't had a response back. I also emailed Davis, but getting a reply back from them is as difficult as trying to pin diarrhoea to a wall.
There's no way I am going to fork out for a new anemometer again, so if I cannot find a solution, I may retire the weather station. It has cost me in excess of £2000 since I bought it in 2016.

Re: 2nd Anemometer Failing
That gable end above the bedroom windows looks a suitable place for the anemometer. You’d need a longer pole to clear the roofline by 3ft or so. Not the perfect solution but a decent compromise and importantly, accessible.
I’m guess by the satellite dish I’m looking at the east face of the house. Is that the public side?

Re: 2nd Anemometer Failing
Anemometer will stay on the chimney. It's the only place that clears obstructions from surrounding buildings and trees.

Re: 2nd Anemometer Failing
I’m struggling to understand how you’ve spent nearly £2000 in just 7 years.
The new anemometer uses a Hall-Effect sensor compared to a reed switch on the older one. No moving parts other than the cups. These instruments work continuously and are the most likely to fail. But once you have the new anemometer it’s much more reliable.
Are you near the coast? Salt air doesn’t help.

Re: 2nd Anemometer Failing
The Hall effect sensor use only for wind speed, it still uses a potentiometer for the direction - which is subject to track wear. You could try spraying it with contact cleaner and spinning it around. It may revive it for a while.

Re: 2nd Anemometer Failing
Having invested so much I’d be reluctant to shut down operations.
