Rainfall continually counts after rain stopped

Hi
I have an Instromet weather station and i have renewed the rain gauge wiring and sensor twice now as when it rains cumulus records the rainfall, but when the rain stops cumulus keeps counting sometimes as high as 839mm of rain. Im guessing there may be something wrong with cumulus and if so what could it be?

I have to remotely access the raspberry pi to alter the readings which is time consuming. When i alter the readings should i enter 0 or 0.0 for rainfall.

Many thanks

When it starts happening again, turn on debug logging, then after it's been happening for a few minutes, zip up the diags folder and attach it here, together with the debug.log file. Please indicate at what time it stopped raining.

It doesn't matter whether you use 0 or 0.0 to set the rain to zero.

Edit: You mention a Raspberry Pi, does this mean you are using MX rather than Cumulus 1 (which is the section where you have posted)? My instructions above don't apply in that case.

In that case, when it happens, turn on debug logging and data logging in the MX settings, wait for a few minutes while the rain is still increasing in Cumulus, and then zip up and attach to a reply in this thread the latest MXdiags file.

(Thread moved to MX section)

Steve

Ive looked at questions regarding the diags folder and how to attach and not sure how to do it still, do i have to access the pi.

Thanks

Yes, you'll need to access the filestore on the Pi. The easiest way is probably to copy the file to your PC. It depends on how you have the Pi set up.

What command do i have to input

I know how to input things like

sudo nano today.ini

But not sure how to access the diags folder.

Many thanks

The MXdiags directory is inside the directory where you have MX installed. I need the latest file from that directory; the file names are timestamps so it's easy to see which is the latest one.

How you get that file to the forum depends on how you have your Pi set up. You must have a way of copying files to and from it, as you put MX on there in the first place. The way I used to get files to and from my Pi was to set up a Samba share on the Pi, so it appeared as a network drive in Windows.

Hi Steve

I attach the diags folder zip file, hope you receive it. I started the datalogging and debug logging around 19.00 yesterday 11th July. This is when it stopped raining and the readings increased even though no rain.

Hope you can find the problem.

Thanks

There's something wrong with your station. Here are the logger entries that Cumulus received when you started it up at 19:10 yesterday:

I've highlighted the rainfall counter in red. As you can see, it starts off at 653.60 in the first entry, it then drops to 34.63 (it is supposed to be an ever-increasing counter of the total rainfall) and then increases rapidly back up to 653.62, before suddenly dropping to 34.63 again.

Steve

Thank you for the info. So cumulus is not at fault but my Instromet station. If so that's strange as i have replaced the datalogger, new pcb and rain gauge wiring and sensor, 3rd one now.
