Linda thick is for people like myself who has no idea about rasp.pi or utils or a website. I use the realtime gauges and in realtimegaugesT.txt I have 3 lines :-
"time=<#LightningTime>",
"Dist=<#LightningDistance>",
"Strikes=<#LightningStrikesToday>",
Don't ask where they came from as I have no idea but it works, here we have had lightning today and 173 hits were recorded. I use VERY old basic to get the info from Cmx and use it in my own dashboard prog. The above lines that i have in realtimegaugeT may or may not be the correct way but it works for me, hope this helps

Dave,

Thanks very much for replying, I’m trying to get this up and running before we get the threatened storms on Sunday! Trouble is, in the UK we don’t get that much lightning so I can’t afford to miss it :D. I’ll try adding those tags to the gauges file, I’ve got a custom text file for the daily total but I’d like to get a bit more granular than that. The heat isn’t helping my ancient brain…… Does adding it to the txt file mean you get data every few seconds please?

Got my realtime set at 5sec.and the daily count zero's at midnight but not lightning time or distance that stays till the next strike is recorded. Does ancient beat 77? and still trying to learn.

Thanks Dave.

Nope, you beat me by a few years!! Never stop learning, as they say, use it or lose it. Have you thought about trying a Raspberry Pi? The great thing about them is when you mess it all up it’s very easy to just start over, it all gets quite addictive. Useful project for winter evenings and folk on here are very helpful.

I’ll look at my real-time files later, thanks once again.
Linda

Good luck with your quest but come back on again if you run into trouble as there are plenty others with a lot more knowledge than I have.
