Where do I start?

I've been using the Davis supplied software with my Vantage view for a good few years but always wanted to try something with better graphics and a more 'professional' feel. I've tried several times to download Cumulus and get it to talk to my Console - each resulting in failure ! I feel the failure is related to the Comms port issue ( I use a USB data logger and cable to connect to my PC). I know longer know what to do. which Cumulus variant to download or even if what I'm trying to do is even feasible. Does anyone know where I can find (very) simple instructions, or am I stuck with what I've got ?

Download CumulusMX and follow these instructions https://www.cumuluswiki.org/a/First_Run_of_MX as well as using Freddie's instructions on a Davis system.
