Re: CMXv4 .NET8 Windows 10
As the simplest solution to the problem would be... buying a new laptop (which I am considering, because my current one is worth about €50 ).
Of course, I will look for a solution in my free time, but not at any cost. If I find it, great. If I don't find it ... och well.
Mark,
will the current CMXv3 updates be bug fixes, without adding new features? When can we expect development to cease? Is there still a chance to add tags about average temperatures?

For now, v3 releases will continue until the v4 beta ends. Then when v4 is released, v3 will be put on bug fixes only for a period, and all new features will go into v4. Eventually all v3 releases will cease. What those periods will be isn't clear yet.

Re: CMXv4 .NET8 Windows 10
I tested the operation of CMXv4 on another of my laptops. It's quite old too. It's probably over 10 years old and hasn't been used for a long time, but it has Win10. It turned out that Cumulus works. I suspect it may be the fault of the TPM module. I can run CMX on laptops with TPM. The one I use for the weather center is 100% TPM free. I think that's the problem.

Aha, interesting. Are you going to install TPM on that problematic machine to confirm or are you going to use that 10 year old machine?Dador wrote: ↑Fri 22 Mar 2024 6:05 pm I tested the operation of CMXv4 on another of my laptops. You cannot add TPM it's a chip, it either has it or not.

Re: CMXv4 .NET8 Windows 10
This is a last resort for me to use this 10 year old computer. Sooner, as I mentioned, I will buy a new machine.
Exactly.broadstairs wrote: ↑Fri 22 Mar 2024 6:53 pm You cannot add TPM it's a chip, it either has it or not.
I was looking for a TPM emulator, but it probably won't work. I checked with the tpm.msc command and in the BIOS. It doesn't detect the TPM module anywhere.
I suspect TPM because it is the only clear difference between the tested computers. Currently, I have all the drivers installed on the weather machine, there is no conflict. I suspect that .NET8 has a security issue without a TPM. But these are just my guesses.

You could install Linux. It seems to be a perfectly functional computer, a shame to discard it.

Re: CMXv4 .NET8 Windows 10
Yes, that's an idea.
20 years ago, when I started my adventure with computers, I had a momentary love affair with Ubuntu. Somehow nothing came of this relationship, I returned to Windows
I would need a simple distribution that requires more mouse clicking than keyboard typing. And I don't have high expectations either. A web browser, listen to Spotify, watch something on YouTube, office suite and of course CMXv4 .
Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora?
What to choose?

Desktop Linux is much improved on 20 years ago. Mint is recommended by many - it is Ubuntu-based. Ubuntu itself is good too. Not sure about Fedora - no real experience of their desktop offering.

Re: CMXv4 .NET8 Windows 10
I've been using openSUSE for some time now with the KDE desktop which is something you should find quite familiar. Currently using their Leap 15.5 version and running CumulusMX V4 on it obviously with .NET v8. It is running on a mini PC.
Stuart
PS Just checked and one of my mini PCs does not have a TPM but does run .NET 8 and CMX V4.
