Highly unusual weather stat!
Here’s a very unusual stat that almost defies belief!
The warmest night this year remains 1 January. There was very mild air over the British Isles and despite the fact we’re now 61 days into meteorological spring it remains the warmest night when the temp never dropped below 11.3°C.

Re: Highly unusual weather stat!
If you use a 0900 day like me then things are a bit more complicated. According to Cumulus, the minimum on 01 Jan 2022 was 7.7. Using meteorological criteria (i.e. the day that the minimum is recorded against is the one that the recording period ends in) then it was 11.2 for me - which is indeed the warmest night of the year so far by 2.2 degrees

Re: Highly unusual weather stat!
Nice to see our two stations recording such similar data Mark.
Freddie, swings and roundabouts with 0900 versus midnight. For midnight users it requires two warm nighttime periods and that happened 31 to 1 and 1 to 2.
I wonder how long it will be before it’s broken. Certainly one of the more unusual records.

Re: Highly unusual weather stat!
Well this is the same in Jersey with the warmest minimum on 2 January at 11.3C, the 24 April came close at 11.2C but really climate change messes with everything!
My main concern is the real lack of rainfall for the last couple of years, we are at 18 days no rainfall period at the moment and that does not seem to be ending any time soon.

No problem with rain so far this year in Cheshire. 0.36” above the 30 year average but a very wet February was balanced by a drier Jan, March and April.
The three spring months are the driest here with records going back to 2009.

Re: Highly unusual weather stat!
Finally this most unusual record has been broken 130 days after it was set. The minimum temp of 11.4C (beating the 11.3C on 1 Jan) was actually set just before noon yesterday. Skewed by a midnight to midnight rule rather than ending at 09:00.

Hi Ray
Well today our drought was broken after 28 days with no rain. A massive 0.4mm rain this afternoon!!! This gave a total of 178mm for the year against a long term average of 340mm just about half the expected norm.
The minimum temperature from January was only beaten on the 7th May with 12C

Hi Andy,
0.44” up here in Cheshire today. 11.29” so far this year, 0.58” below the average but with another 20 days to go it will rise.
Just 6 rain days in March which remains the driest month of the year since 2009.

Mine still stands. 11.2 on 1 Jan, and the closest to this figure is 10.3 on 10 May. No doubt it will be beaten at some point over the summerRayProudfoot wrote: ↑Wed 11 May 2022 4:36 pm Finally this most unusual record has been broken 130 days after it was set. Ridiculous, isn’t it? Just goes to show how unpredictable spring can be.

Mine still stands as well 12.1C on the 1st January although I also got close on the 10th May like Freddie at 11.8C.freddie wrote: ↑Sat 14 May 2022 8:26 amMine still stands. 11.2 on 1 Jan, and the closest to this figure is 10.3 on 10 May.
