G'day,
I have recently been given an Oregon Weather Station model WMR 918 or WMR 968 (both numbers are listed on the rear of the Touch Screen). This was given to me by a friend who has never been able to fully master its use.
That said, I'm also having difficulties setting it up. I would prefer to use it on my PC loaded with Windows 7, but I could use it on my old PC which has Windows XP with SP3.
The unit as given to me would seem to be complete, and has the rain gauge, the outdoor thermo-hygro sensor, the wind vane and anemometer, and 3 solar transmitters. There are also 2 display units, 1 a small 433Mhz cable free unit that sits on the desk, and the larger Touch Screen unit that also has a power connection. Both screens seem to work and display data. The software CD that came with the unit is "ambient weather". I'm not sure whether this has ever been registered.
Having originally tried to set the Station up with ambient weather was not a success. The instructions (such as they are) tell me to select the Weather Station model from a drop down list. However, there is no drop down list from which to choose. I have not been able to make a connection from the Touch Screen to my PC, and there is no data displayed on my PC screen. (I have connected it via a serial cable to my new PC running Windows 7)
An acquaintance has suggested that I should try Cumulus, as it is an excellent product, and I have today downloaded it, and configured it as best as I can, but I still cannot get any communication between the WS and the PC.
On the Configuration screen, I have selected WM 918, as there is no option for the WMR 968 or WMR 918. I have selected Com Port 2, although I am not sure whether this is correct or not, as I cannot find comport connections in the Windows 7 Control Panel. I have not checked any of the TP TCP/IP or xAP settings boxes.
If anyone can offer any helpful advice or suggestions, I would be most grateful.
Regards,
Mike

Re: Oregon WMR 918/968
A WMR 918 or 968 should work with the WMR 928 setting, as it's a wireless model. Try that and see how you get on. If nothing seems to happen, if the version of Cumulus that you're using has a debug window, open it and see if anything appears there, if so, copy the contents here. If you don't have a debug window, turn on the debug log, run for a few minutes, close Cumulus, and attach the debug.log file here.

Re: Oregon WMR 918/968
Steve, many thanks for a speedy reply. I changed the model to 928, and changed my Com Port to 1, and instantly got some read out. Here is a part of the debug form from the Debug Window, if you still need that.

I note that the External temp is not reading, so I shall have a look at that tomorrow, and also check that the rainfall is registering with a little judicious help from the sprinkler.

Yes, there aren't any outdoor temp packets there - they would start FFFF03 or FFFF04; I assume the console itself is not displaying the outdoor temp?
The rain packet is present - that's the one that starts FFFF01, so the gauge is at least transmitting.
